Automation & Orchestration Engineer (AOE)
The Opportunity
We have an outstanding career opportunity for Automation & Orchestration Engineer at Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune locations. This position is within our Customer Solutions Engineering (CSE) Group and is a key part of our Services delivery team.
The Automation & Orchestration Engineer will be primarily responsible for delivering tailored process and workflow automation, along with custom reporting solutions to customers around the globe. Candidates may have backgrounds in DevOps or server infrastructure systems integration, or experience as systems engineers. The successful candidate will be passionate about automation, possessing strong scripting capabilities or proficiency in object-oriented programming languages. They must be able to collaborate effectively within a distributed team environment while also working autonomously, taking ownership of deliverables from design through to implementation. The role demands a positive attitude, efficient time management, innovative thinking, a strong work ethic, and the ability to consistently deliver quality outcomes for clients.
What you’ll do…
- Engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders on a project basis to determine required outcomes, consult through open-ended questions, and evaluate feasibility.
- Translate requirements into scoped deliverables and high-level designs, assigning an appropriate level of effort to each scope of work.
- Define outcome-focused deliverables, and then design, implement, and document these deliverables technically.
- Implement deliverables primarily using Commvault’s APIs, built-in automation and reporting tools, and third-party APIs as needed.
- Provide detailed documentation and assist customers with deployment and testing of deliverables in their environments, followed by handover to support.
- Interact remotely with customers and team members through virtual meetings, emails, and hosted sessions.
- Maintain accurate timekeeping records for hours worked on various projects, which may range from a few days to several months and often run concurrently.
Who you are…
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 4 to 5 years’ experience in the IT industry, with strong expertise in enterprise infrastructure, application management, and operational processes.
- 3 or more years’ experience working in project-based delivery teams, either customer-facing or cross-functional.
- 2 or more years’ experience delivering automation and reporting solutions.
- Ability to embrace and use AI-assisted coding tools for accelerating scripting, documentation, and test creation, while maintaining code quality through reviews and standards.
- Proficiency with modern Operating Systems, Storage, Networking, Computer Security, and Cloud computing concepts.
- Ability to write and optimise Microsoft SQL Server (TSQL) queries for reporting and automation purposes.
- Experience with Java/Groovy or JavaScript for scripting, or fluency in another object-oriented programming language.
- Skills in PowerShell and Unix Shell scripting.
- Experience working with RESTful APIs, including common authentication methods (tokens, OAuth, basic/cert-based) and integration patterns.
- Good understanding of CI/CD and version control concepts; hands-on experience with GitLab CI and/or Azure DevOps Services.
- Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities; comfortable working in ambiguous customer environments.
- Strong working knowledge of Commvault (preferred) or another enterprise backup and restore protection platform.
- Demonstrated experience using AI assisted tools to accelerate development, troubleshooting, documentation, and solution design, while retaining ownership of technical outcomes.
- Hands-on orchestration experience with private cloud platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V.
- Hands-on orchestration experience with public cloud platforms including AWS EC2, S3, Azure Virtual Machines, and Azure Blob/File.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong listening abilities.
- Comfortable leading customer meetings, capturing requirements, and producing clear notes and action items.
- Confident working independently as well as collaborating effectively within remote and distributed teams.
- Strong customer-first mindset, demonstrating proven customer service and stakeholder management skills.
- Enjoys working in highly technical team environments and contributing to shared delivery standards.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and apply them to deliver practical automation outcomes.
- Security and SaaS experience strongly preferred.
