About Role

Navan has transformed the corporate travel, payment, and expense landscape by consistently prioritizing user needs. As a Software Engineer II in the Data & Integrations team, you’ll help build the next generation of our data-driven platform that powers global business travel and expense management. Our team owns the systems that integrate data at scale, deliver reporting capabilities, and connect seamlessly across multiple lines of business.

This is a high-impact role where you’ll work on mission-critical backend systems that process large volumes of data, ensure reliable integrations, and enhance the corporate travel experience for enterprises worldwide. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to design scalable solutions and contribute to a platform trusted by global customers.

What You’ll Do
  • Build Data-Driven Services: Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs that manage high volumes of data, power reporting features, and enable seamless integrations across internal and external systems.
  • Own Features End-to-End: Take responsibility for core features—from system design and coding to deployment, monitoring, and operational support—ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Tackle Integration Challenges: Work on distributed systems and integrations that connect Navan with external partners, data providers, and other platforms, ensuring accuracy, security, and smooth data flow.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders globally to deliver solutions that drive impact across multiple lines of business.
  • Champion Best Practices: Contribute to a culture of technical excellence by writing high-quality, well-tested, maintainable code and advocating for scalability, monitoring, and operational reliability.
  • Grow and Innovate: Stay engaged with emerging technologies in data, APIs, and backend development, continuously bringing fresh ideas to improve system efficiency and customer value.
What We’re Looking For
  • 2–4 years of experience building backend systems in fast-paced, high-growth, or large-scale environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, with solid understanding of JVM fundamentals and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL), data modeling, and query optimization.
  • Practical experience with distributed systems, microservices, and API design, plus familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or similar).
  • Proven ability to deliver production-quality code, with strong practices in testing, documentation, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborative team player, comfortable working with global, cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, eager to tackle complex backend and data challenges.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with data pipelines, reporting systems, or travel industry concepts (e.g., bookings, inventory, integrations).
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent hands-on experience.
