Job Summary
The Functional Commerce Architect acts as the strategic bridge between business objectives and technology execution for digital commerce initiatives. This role is responsible for designing, advising, and delivering scalable, innovative, and integrated commerce solutions—primarily in B2B, B2C and omnichannel environments. The architect works at the intersection of business strategy, digital experience, data, and technology, translating commercial objectives into actionable operating models, roadmaps, and solution designs.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Advise clients on commerce strategy and transformation, covering B2B and B2C use cases ensuring alignment with business goals and digital transformation objectives.
- Design future-state commerce operating models & design of functional architectures for digital commerce platforms, integrating best-of-breed components (e.g., CMS, PIM, OMS, payment systems).
- Conduct workshops and discovery sessions with stakeholders to capture requirements, validate solution designs, and present strategic recommendations.
- Translate business requirements into capability maps, roadmaps, and solution blueprints
- Analyze and map client business processes, customer journeys, and technical landscapes to identify opportunities for optimization and innovation.
- Ensure solutions are feasible, scalable, and integrate seamlessly with existing client systems (ERP, CRM, legacy platforms, etc.).
- Serve as a trusted advisor, building long-term client relationships and acting as the client’s advocate within the organization.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in digital commerce, and distill insights for clients and internal teams.
- Lead the adoption of composable and headless commerce approaches to enable flexibility, scalability, and rapid innovation.
- Contribute to business development, POVs, proposals, and client workshops
- Stay up to date on commerce trends, platforms, and emerging topics (e.g. AI-enabled and agentic commerce)
Professional and Technical Skills
- 12+ years of experience in digital commerce
- Deep understanding of commerce domain knowledge, including omnichannel, composable commerce, and MACH principles.
- Proven experience advising clients and leading workshops to define requirements and solution strategies.
- Strong understanding of AI, especially applying agentic AI to digital commerce
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to bridge business and technology teams.
- Experience with commerce platforms and integration with enterprise systems.
- Experience with commerce-related capabilities such as Product information management (PIM), Pricing, promotions, CPQ, Checkout, order management, fulfillment, Content, personalization, and experience orchestration
- Ability to translate business strategy into technology-enabled solutions
- Structured thinking and strong storytelling skills for C-level and senior stakeholders
- Experience working in cross-functional, international project teams
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and shaping topics from early concept to execution
Additional Information
- Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their role in commerce ecosystems will be an added advantage
