The Current Product Reliability Engineer supports the evaluation and improvement of product reliability by analyzing field performance, warranty data, and engineering information to identify reliability trends and drive corrective actions. The role applies statistical analysis, reliability engineering principles, and structured problem-solving methodologies to assess component and system performance across the Cummins product portfolio. Working closely with cross-functional teams including Product Engineering, Quality, Service, Finance, Marketing, and Analytics, the engineer contributes to improving product durability, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. The role also supports the reliability and performance of analytics platforms, including Power BI environments, to enable data-driven decision making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze field performance, warranty claims, returned components, and reliability data to identify failure trends, emerging issues, and opportunities for product improvement.
  • Apply statistical methods, life data analysis, and reliability engineering techniques to evaluate component and system reliability and quantify the impact of design or process changes.
  • Perform quantitative reliability analysis using appropriate statistical tools to support reliability assessments, failure rate modeling, and product comparisons.
  • Support product problem-solving activities by participating in root cause investigations and implementing robust corrective and preventive actions using structured methodologies.
  • Contribute to Product Failure Reporting and Corrective/Preventive Action (FRACAS) processes to prioritize, investigate, and resolve product reliability issues.
  • Assist in developing reliability test plans, accelerated testing strategies, and validation methods to identify unknown failure modes and improve product durability.
  • Participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA/DFMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and reliability risk assessments throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Service, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, Marketing, and other cross-functional teams to improve current product performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize engineering principles and accepted analytical methods to evaluate technical problems and recommend practical solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing product reliability, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of CCS Analytics applications and the Power BI reporting environment.
  • Manage and coordinate Power BI dashboard deployments, report releases, and analytics enhancements.
  • Maintain and optimize Power BI semantic/data models to support evolving business reporting requirements.
  • Administer user access, security roles, and permissions within the Power BI environment.
  • Monitor report performance, troubleshoot data refresh failures, deployment issues, and reporting system performance.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and deliver scalable analytics solutions.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, data models, and operational support documentation.
  • Promote continuous improvement of analytics platforms, reporting processes, and engineering tools.

  • Knowledge of engine and generator set (Genset) systems, component functionality, operating principles, and failure modes.
  • Understanding of reliability engineering principles, warranty analysis, life data analysis, and reliability growth methodologies.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and reliability tools such as Minitab, Weibull++, Winsmith, JMP, R, or similar software.
  • Knowledge of descriptive statistics, probability distributions, regression analysis, design of experiments (DOE), hypothesis testing, and statistical inference.
  • Experience with quality and structured problem-solving methodologies including:
    • 7 QC Tools
    • 8D Problem Solving
    • 7-Step Problem Solving
    • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
    • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
    • DFMEA / IDFMEA
  • Familiarity with Product Failure Reporting and Corrective/Preventive Action Systems (FRACAS).
  • Knowledge of reliability test planning, accelerated testing, and reliability risk management.
  • Experience with Power BI administration, dashboard deployment, semantic models, report optimization, security management, and analytics support is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze complex engineering and business data to generate actionable insights.

Experience
  • Entry-level to early career experience in Reliability Engineering, Product Engineering, Service Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Internship, co-op, or relevant industry experience in reliability, warranty analysis, quality, or product engineering is preferred.
  • Experience working with engineering data analysis, statistical software, or business intelligence tools such as Power BI is desirable.
  • Exposure to warranty systems, field performance analysis, reliability testing, or engineering analytics is an advantage.
  • Experience supporting cross-functional engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives is preferred.
QualificationsQualifications
  • Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Export control or sanctions-related licensing may be required based on business needs and applicable regulations.
