Job Description:
What You'll Do

  • Responsible for identifying risk and driving strategies to manage it. Serves as the primary point of contact for the Payment Services' business to applicable global regulatory authorities.
  • Supports the Payment Services business and serves as a liaison to the enterprise-wide Legal, Compliance and Corporate Risk functions and global regulatory authorities to assess and communicate impacts, report updates and provide a status of Payment Services' compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Leads or participates in the development of business-unit specific approaches to regulatory compliance requirements and monitors accurate and timely implementation of actions to achieve and maintain compliance across all risk management disciplines and all areas in the organization.
  • Directs process design, control workflow/systems, reporting, testing, remediation and third-party management. Creates a culture of effective risk management, accountability, and demonstration of risk awareness across the organization.


How You'll Do It

  • Serves as the point of contact for Payment Services with global regulatory authorities on matters relating to compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Advises Payment Services business units and supporting functions (e.g., Legal Counsel, Risk, Government Relations, Exam Management) on strategic and complex issues and requirements pertaining to compliance with applicable global regulatory requirements.
  • Supports the Payment Services business units and the organization through leading and/or participating in the global regulatory exams of Discover's Payment Services business and the assessment of global regulatory requirements.
  • Works with cross-functional teams to respond to regulatory reporting requests and deliver timely responses regulators.
  • Exercises prudent discretion and decision-making skills to represent and/or advocate on the company's behalf before regulatory or judicial bodies, as necessary, or in dealings with counter-parties on matters such as litigation, commercial transactions, regulatory examinations and supervisory matters, comment letters and position papers on proposed regulations and legislation that may impact the company.
  • Lobby on behalf of the Company's interests.
  • Identifies, assesses, communicates, and provides oversight and strategic guidance on new or proposed legal and regulatory requirements, emerging legal and regulatory risks and trends.
  • Works with Payment Services business units and cross functional teams across the first, second and third lines of defense (as applicable) to remediate gaps in compliance with applicable laws or regulations.
  • Leads or participates in special assignments and/or projects focused on development or enhancement of regulatory risk management and monitoring programs for Payment Services.
  • Manages and directs or develops teams/working groups, as assigned and required by role at management's discretion, to achieve business objectives.


Qualifications You'll Need
The Basics

  • Bachelors in Business Administration and Management, Arts, Engineering, IT, Social Sciences, Information Security, J.D
  • 10+ years in Financial Services, Payment Network (business to business), Audit, Compliance, Government Relations, Legal, Risk Management.
