This role is a pivotal opportunity to contribute to a revamped customer messaging experience, collaborating with globally distributed teams and cross-functional stakeholders. You'll ensure timely project delivery, uphold high code quality, and mentor engineers to reach their full potential.
As an Engineering Manager, you will be a key leader in our Messaging product teams, driving both people development and technical excellence.
• Lead & Mentor: Guide a team of 4–6 software engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Drive their career development, growth, and performance.
• Strategise & Execute: Partner with Engineering and Product leaders to define and deliver business and technology initiatives, aligning with our long-term roadmap. Oversee project delivery across globally dependent teams.
• Technical Leadership: Promote operational excellence, lead system design reviews, and contribute to architectural decisions. Drive Agile methodologies and continuous process improvement.
• Collaborate: Serve as a key liaison, partnering with Product Managers and communicating effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
• 8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years in a technical leadership or management role.
• Proven ability to coach, mentor, hire, and retain high-performing engineering talent.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and prioritization skills.
• Solid technical background in backend development (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Java, Python) and API design (GraphQL/REST).
• In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud environments (preferably AWS).
• Experience with large-scale cloud architecture in a SaaS environment.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, automated testing, and CI/CD practices.

• Backend: Java, Ruby, Python
• Frontend: React, TypeScript
• Data/Messaging: Kafka, GraphQL, gRPC
• Cloud: AWS (RDS, S3, EKS)
• Orchestration: Kubernetes, Spinnaker

Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
