Job Summary:

The Expert Services Consultant partners with OpenGov customers to ensure they not only implement our solutions, but fully adopt, optimize, and realize measurable value from them. This role is key to driving long-term customer success, retention, and advocacy—cementing OpenGov’s position as a trusted partner in modernizing local and state government operations.

Acting as a subject matter expert, the Expert Services Consultant applies deep product knowledge and domain expertise to guide customers through ongoing adoption, process optimization, and solution evolution beyond initial go-live. The consultant often provides staff augmentation support, helping customers deliver time-critical and business-critical outcomes using OpenGov’s products/suites.

The ideal candidate thrives in a customer-facing, fast-paced environment—balancing multiple engagements while ensuring each customer experiences a seamless journey and achieves meaningful results.

The Expert Services Consultant will work with multiple customers maintaining a seamless experience and overall satisfaction from the process and the results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Staff Augmentation & Execution: Serve as an embedded expert within customer teams to execute business- and time-critical processes using OpenGov products.

  • Adoption & Enablement: Guide customers through complex product capabilities and best practices to drive adoption, improve efficiency, and maximize value.

  • Feature Evangelism: Help customers to stay up-to-date for new features and enhancements, provide proactive recommendations for adoption and integration into their workflows.

  • Consultative Support: Address product-related inquiries, provide hands-on guidance, and strengthen OpenGov’s reputation as a long-term partner in success.

  • Optimization & Scale: Support deeper workflow optimization, configuration refinement, and process acceleration to enable scalable operations.

  • Outcome Assurance: Help customers avoid underutilization, mitigate risk from staff turnover, and accelerate time-to-value through expert engagement.

  • Customer Empowerment: Deliver user training, support platform configuration, and ensure customers develop confidence in managing their systems.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify customer pain points and collaborate cross-functionally to enhance usability, automation, and overall experience.

  • Domain Expertise: Develop deep understanding of governmental processes across states and apply that knowledge to advise and configure optimal solutions.

  • Project Management: Estimate effort, set timelines, and deliver on commitments across multiple concurrent customer engagements.

Requirements and Preferred Experience:
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects of varying size and complexity with strong organizational discipline.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new product features and apply domain expertise to deliver meaningful business outcomes.

  • 5+ years of experience configuring or implementing large, complex SaaS solutions, with 3+ years in a customer-facing consulting or professional services role.

  • Strong technical aptitude with analytical thinking, systems perspective, and process optimization mindset.

  • Experience in GovTech is highly desirable.

  • Exceptional communication skills—both written and verbal—with a customer-centric approach and collaborative attitude.

  • Proven success working in fast-paced environments balancing delivery, internal process improvements, and cross-team collaboration.

  • Experience managing customer escalations and proactively mitigating delivery risks.
