As a Global Commodities Credit Risk Associate in the Global Commodities Group, you will specialize in product-specific credit risks. You will assess the risk of structured commodities products and transactions, negotiate related documentation, and engage with credit officers across all lines of business globally. You will work on new business initiatives, periodic portfolio risk reviews, and regularly analyze commodity market and credit risk data to generate actionable insights for senior management decision-making. You will also develop junior talent to enhance the performance of the broader team.
Job Responsibilities
• Perform credit risk due diligence on new transactions and/or new counterparties, focusing on physical commodities transactions.
• Use strong analytical, modeling, and problem-solving skills to recommend structures that protect the firm's interests.
• Actively participate in the negotiation of credit terms in master trading agreements and structured transactions.
• Ensure all documentation required for trading, including master agreements and guarantees, are in place.
• Assist other credit officers with credit due diligence, structuring, and document negotiation.
• Support GCG business on ad hoc projects related to new business initiatives, change management, policy, procedure, product control, regulatory relations, and business management.
• Prepare and present periodic commodities risk reviews to senior management.
• Perform ongoing customer due diligence and financial analysis for a portfolio of counterparties.
• Provide early identification and proactive management of deteriorating credits and other problem situations.
• Maintain active working relationships with the firm's structuring, sales, trading, and origination teams.
• Work with bank examiners and internal credit reviewers to validate credit quality and integrity of the credit process.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
• BA/BS degree.
• Professional work experience in credit/counterparty risk, commodities, and/or derivative products.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and an excellent work ethic.
• Strong credit analysis and financial modeling skills.
• Experience working with and negotiating master trading agreements typical of the energy trading industry.
• Exceptional analytical aptitude and ability to think abstractly.
• Strong data analysis and presentation skills.
• Performs well under pressure in a demanding environment.
• Independently productive and works well in a team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
• Understanding of or experience in covering a variety of energy and commodity trading companies.
• Experience in data analysis and visualization, using programming languages like Python.
• Completion of a commercial/investment bank credit training program or equivalent experience.
• Relevant experience in commodities markets.
• Understanding of front office processes and ability to balance necessities of credit risk management with commercial requirements.
• MBA degree.
