The Role

As a System Administrator at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world.
There’s never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You’ll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You’ll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

More than 5 Years’ Experience in IBM i System Administration with demonstrating proficiency in the following areas

1. IBM i Operating System Skills

• Deep understanding of IBM i OS architecture and its components.
• Practical experience in managing different versions of IBM i OS, including applying Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs).
• Skilled at working both from the command line (CL commands) and through menu-based navigation.

2. User and Security Management

• Expertise in handling user profiles, groups, and access rights.
• Capable of setting up and maintaining strong security protocols.
• Well-versed in security tools such as IBM i Security Navigator and advanced auditing features.

3. Subsystem and Job Control

• Proficient in overseeing subsystems and job queues within IBM i systems.
• Experienced in scheduling and organising batch jobs for maximum workflow efficiency.
• Able to monitor active jobs, resolve failures, and troubleshoot job-related issues.

4. Backup and Restoration

• Responsible for system backups using tools like BRMS (Backup, Recovery and Media Services).
• Plans strategically and tests recovery procedures regularly.
• Manages save/restore operations and media libraries effectively.

5. Storage and File System Oversight

• Handles IBM i objects, including libraries, files, and folders.
• Supervises DASD allocation and manages storage pools.
• Has thorough knowledge of the integrated file system (IFS) and its administration.

6. Performance Monitoring and Enhancement

• Uses performance monitoring solutions like IBM Navigator for i and WRKACTJOB.
• Analyses system performance and implements optimisations to overcome bottlenecks.
• Conducts capacity planning and workload distribution to maximise operational efficiency.

7. Application and Software Management

• Installs and maintains both IBM i licensed software and third-party programs.
• Oversees program libraries and objects throughout their lifecycle.
• Works closely with development teams to support deployments.

8. Networking and Communications

• Configures and manages TCP/IP networks.
• Administers communication devices and protocols for IBM i systems.
• Skilled in FTP, Telnet, HTTP, and related standards on IBM i.

9. Automation and Scripting

• Designs CL programs/scripts to automate routine tasks.
• Utilises IBM i Navigator and other scheduling tools to streamline job automation.

10. High Availability and Disaster Recovery

• Sets up and manages IBM i high availability solutions, such as PowerHA.
• Develops and executes disaster recovery plans and replication methods.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

• Familiar with DB2 for i database management.
• Experienced with IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS).
• Knowledgeable about modern integration tools and APIs, including REST services on IBM i.
• Strong understanding of IBM Power Systems hardware.
