About the role

Smarsh is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers responsible for developing our Internal Developer Portal (IDP) product. As the Engineering Manager for the Internal Developer Portal, you will be crucial in managing and mentoring a team of highly skilled engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. You will also work closely with Engineering and Product leadership to define and execute the technical roadmap for our IDP, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers dedicated to building and enhancing our Internal Developer Portal.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to define projects, product specifications, timelines, scope, deliverables, and technical initiatives.
  • Lead and manage the planning and execution of engineering projects Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders to provide updates on project status, milestones, and technical challenges.
  • Work closely with Engineering leadership to align the IDP roadmap with overall technical strategy and objectives.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to translate business requirements into technical solutions and prioritize feature development.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the team, ensuring adherence to best practices, coding standards, and security protocols.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and communication within the engineering team and across departments.
  • Participate in the recruitment process to attract top engineering talent, conducting interviews and making hiring decisions.

Desired skills & experience

  • Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years of proven track record of successfully leading and managing engineering teams; and 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer.

  • Technical Skills:
  • Experience with web development technologies and frameworks.
  • Have expertise in leading the development of developer experience tools, like CLI, SDK, and Developer portal.
  • Have expertise in cloud computing and native environments preferably AWS.

  • Preferred:
  • Experience in Developer portal tools like PORT or Backstage.
  • Knowledge about Catalog and workflow management.

  • Good to have:
  • Hands-on experience in development methodologies will be a plus for this role AWS or similar Cloud Certification Experience in regulatory and compliance (ISO/SOC2/PCI etc).

  • Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Ability to mentor and inspire team members, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse teams across organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously. Agile methodologies and frameworks knowledge is a must.
