Job Summary:
The Manager, Technical Writer will lead the development and delivery of high-quality documentation that supports the organization’s technical and business processes. This role will ensure consistency, accuracy, and usability across documentation while collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather technical requirements and effectively translate them into clear, concise, and accessible materials. The Manager, Technical Writer will also oversee a team of writers, driving strategy, and ensuring alignment with business objectives. This is a player-coach role where the Manager leads the team and also delivers content.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for technical documentation, aligning with organizational goals and ensuring usability for diverse audiences.
- Lead and mentor a team of technical writers, providing guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and other cross-functional teams to collect technical information and translate it into accurate, user-friendly documentation.
- Establish and maintain documentation standards, templates, and processes to ensure consistency and quality across all deliverables.
- Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality.
- Develop and monitor metrics to evaluate the impact of documentation, track team performance, and identify areas for improvement to ensure alignment with organizational growth and evolving technologies.
- Provide guidance to technical writers, including mentoring on complex projects, reviewing high-impact content, and enabling team members to assume leadership in documentation initiatives.
- Stay updated on industry trends and tools to incorporate best practices in technical writing and documentation.
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in technical writing, including 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, guide, and develop a team.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in documentation tools such as Salesforce, Guru, Confluence, or similar platforms.
- Experience working globally, across time zones to successfully drive deliverables on time to scope.
- Exceptional English written and verbal communication skills with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and user engagement.
- Demonstrated experience incorporating AI tooling with controls to drive superior output and increased capacity.
- Experience developing and implementing documentation standards and strategies at scale.
- Familiarity with SaaS products, APIs, and cloud-based technologies preferred.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
