As a colleague within Cloud Platform Operations, you will be part of a team driving M&G’s Core Cloud Platform. Facing off to the entire M&G organisation, we own, develop and operate M&G’s core Cloud Infrastructure, supporting projects and business users to bring their workloads into the Cloud.
We also develop and manage key Enterprise Engineering Platforms and Tools such as Apigee (API Management), Azure DevOps, M&G’s Enterprise Container Platform and M&G’s Data Science & Machine Learning Platforms.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities
The Role:
The Platform Operations Engineer is responsible of the management of internal platforms used by M&G Business and technology teams to provide service to all their customers. He/she is a multidisciplinary technical profile focused in engineering, development of products and services, deployment and operations tasks in the M&G internal infrastructure.
He/she delivers high quality services, following industry best practices, with embedded automation and security processes. He/she is in contact with leading technologies in a multinational and multicultural environment, working on interesting projects and providing support to other areas in the company.
The main areas of knowledge that are required are:
- Windows systems and application administration
- Cloud and virtualization
- Scripting and automation
The Team
We are looking to expand our team through M&G Global Services to continue to provide the highest levels of service to our end users. The Platform Operations team works to high standards within our growing business by managing critical platforms, running our Azure estate and supporting our engineering teams. Getting involved in projects, upgrades, small change engineering and incident response we look to automate everything we can and drive efficiencies across the organisation. This is done by reducing costs and waste, ensuring high system availability and challenging the status quo.
Currently split across three geographies and supported by a technology partner we stand by having a one team feel and regularly collaborate and work together to meet the common goals. The Platform Operations team is made up of four squads which specialise in the following areas:
- Compute
- Platforms
- Networks
- Data
No two days are the same for our engineers who split their time between designing, implementing and automating. They also provide L1, L2 and L3 support, utilising their expertise to solve complex issues across a variety of platforms. From investigating issues with Azure RedHat OpenShift to our API Management platform, our engineers have a diverse set of skills and are the ‘go to’ people when things go wrong.

Key Skills and Experience Required:
We always support colleagues to develop their skills but to be successful in this role the following will be required by our Platform Engineers:
- Basic familiarity with, Agile and DevOps methodologies
- An understanding of cloud technologies
- Understanding of day-to-day systems administration, management, design and deployment of core infrastructure and services.
- Automation of operations which introduce efficiencies in central services administration.
- Contribute to improvement plans in tools and services.
- A base understanding of:
- Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)
- A willingness and hunger to achieve / learn:
- Other Technologies – Containers, Ansible, Linux, Akamai, Windows, OCI, Git, Azure DevOps and CI / CD Pipelines, Git flow and Serverless
- Developing and deploying solutions through the SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle).
- You must have a problem solving mindset and the ability to troubleshoot unknown technical issues and be able to identify inefficiencies and better ways of working
- Proven experience in building relationships with team members
- Applicants must be fluent in both verbal and written English in order to communicate with our business users and stakeholders.
- Ability to document processes, procedures and knowledge base articles

Experience:
Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience as a Application / Platform / Cloud support engineer.
Educational Qualification:
- Graduate/Masters in any discipline
- Cloud certifications would be an added advantage
