We believe in bold ideas, diverse perspectives, and the drive to transform knowledge into impact. Here, your curiosity fuels progress, your voice shapes innovation, and your ambition helps redefine what’s possible within science and learning. We are a culture that obsesses over impact, challenges, and drives what’s next to power infinite possibilities for our customers, colleagues and society at large.

About the Role:

Location: Noida, U.P or Pune, Maharashtra

Work Model: Hybrid (On-site presence required)

The Manager, Comprehensive Editorial Evaluation manages a team of approximately 7-8 subject matter experts (SMEs). These colleagues are in-house Handling Editors. Each Editor is assigned to one or more journals that align with their subject-matter expertise and is responsible for screening and triage, as well as managing the peer review process, from the moment a manuscript is assigned to them at submission through to the final decision. Members of the Comprehensive Editorial Evaluation Team are highly educated (advanced degrees - i.e., MD/PhD or equivalent) and experienced researchers, this is an enviable resource that must be utilized to its fullest potential, which is why the Manager position is so critical to the engagement and development of what must be a highly productive team.

The Manager, Comprehensive Editorial Evaluation plays a pivotal role in ensuring the team in their charge delivers against the annual targets that drive Research Publishing’s strategic imperative to grow portfolio-wide article output, provide authors with outstanding publishing experience, and attract and retain authors through the quality of our journals.

The Manager is themselves an SME with significant experience as a Handling Editor. In that sense, they are a point of escalation for more junior colleagues in their charge, offering guidance in the event of a challenging rebuttal or ethical case. This speaks about their role in the development of colleagues through on-the-job and more formal training efforts.
How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Create a positive and motivating work environment where team members work towards common objectives and feel valued.
  • Develop team members through coaching, feedback, exposure, stretch assignments, and training.
  • Hold regular one-on-one meetings and work together with the Associate Director on regular team meetings of the larger group.
  • Regularly review and manage team members’ performance using Wiley’s performance framework as a guide.

Peer Review Management

  • Manage the peer review process from submission to final editorial decision using best-practice principles and effective time-management practices.

Performance Management

  • Report on performance/productivity to the Associate Director, Comprehensive Editorial Evaluation, highlighting blockers and risks to achieving goals.

Skills and Training

  • Engage in team meetings and participate in training initiatives to develop skills as identified by their manager(s).
  • Work with the Associate Director to identify areas for improvement and work to acquire new skills.

What We Are Looking For:

  • PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a STEM field (or equivalent advanced degree). An advanced degree in Social Sciences is acceptable if accompanied by previous editorial experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in supervisory, people management, mentorship, or editorial training role.
  • Proven working knowledge of online manuscript submission and peer review management systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a global, distributed team.
  • Proven ability to handle complex problems and identify solutions or appropriate escalation pathways.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • A track record as a published scholar (ideally 3+ peer-reviewed research articles in reputable journals).
  • Hands-on experience as a Handling Editor.
  • Prior experience working with a STEM journal publisher.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop team members' skills, engagement, and career progression.
