Job Purpose and Impact
The Network DevOps Engineer will design, automate, operate, and continuously improve Cargill's global software-defined network infrastructure, with an initial focus on the Versa SD-WAN platform. In this role, you will apply modern software engineering, infrastructure as code, and site reliability practices to build secure, scalable, resilient, and supportable network capabilities.
Key Accountabilities
  • Lead the architecture, engineering, deployment, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of the global Versa SD-WAN platform, including orchestration, analytics, controllers, and branch appliances.
  • Engineer resilient WAN solutions using strong routing and security fundamentals, including BGP, OSPF, IPsec, segmentation, quality of service, application-aware path selection, high availability, and cloud and internet connectivity.
  • Develop reusable automation and infrastructure as code using Python, REST APIs, Ansible, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and related tools to standardize provisioning, configuration, validation, upgrades, and operational workflows.
  • Establish and enforce engineering guardrails through version control, peer review, automated testing, configuration validation, secure secrets handling, deployment approvals, and reliable rollback procedures.
  • Improve platform observability and reliability using Versa analytics, Datadog, telemetry, logging, dashboards, alerting, capacity analysis, and service-level measures to identify risk before it affects the business.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex WAN, application performance, routing, carrier, and automation issues, partnering with operations teams, service providers, and vendors through incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • Develop and maintain architecture standards, high-level and low-level designs, reusable code modules, support documentation, operational runbooks, and transition plans for production support teams.
  • Provide technical leadership across engineering teams, remove delivery roadblocks, mentor engineers, and promote modern Network DevOps and software engineering practices across Cargill.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in network engineering, network automation, DevOps, platform engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience supporting enterprise WAN or SD-WAN environments, with a strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, VPN technologies, network security, and high-availability design.
  • Demonstrated experience developing network automation with Python, Git-based workflows, REST APIs, and configuration or infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible or Terraform.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Five or more years of experience designing, automating, and supporting network platforms in a large, globally distributed enterprise environment.
  • Hands-on experience engineering and operating Versa Networks SD-WAN, including Versa Director, Analytics, Controller, and branch appliance capabilities, or comparable enterprise SD-WAN platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of BGP, OSPF, route redistribution, IPsec, quality of service, VRFs and segmentation, NAT, DNS, DHCP, firewall policy, resilient underlay and overlay design, and secure internet access patterns.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines for network infrastructure using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent tools, including automated testing, code quality checks, approval controls, and deployment rollback.
  • Experience creating network automation services and integrations using Python, FastAPI, Go, JavaScript, REST APIs, data models, and structured formats such as JSON and YAML.
  • Experience with automated network testing and validation frameworks such as pytest, pyATS, Batfish, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with network observability and performance management using Datadog, Versa analytics, SNMP, syslog, streaming telemetry, dashboards, and event correlation.
  • Experience with cloud networking and connectivity across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including secure, multi-region, and highly available architectures.
