Job Summary
The Network Engineer – Specialist in Planning, plays a critical role in support the technical activities and projects associated with Telstra IP product range, working to the Telstra network delivers a superior network experience for our consumer and business customers.
You do this by drawing on your deep levels of telecommunications network expertise and experience to provide specialist analysis, design, development in network specific technology domains, including developing platform specific technology roadmaps and making technology investment recommendations.
How the role contributes to business strategy?
Effectively and efficiently support a diverse set of technical projects with specific outcomes via programs of work in Technology delivery as well as expert input and recommendation with regards to future looking technical projects.
Key areas include:
• Core IP routers and capacities supporting the complete suite of International IP network services.
• Internet Edge Routers providing IPT and GID services to key OTT and Eyeball customers.
• Private IP service Provider Edge routers including multiple generation of PE devices servicing Telstra internal and external customers.
• Overlay GMNS and SD-WAN product range, providing services to our enterprise customers.
• Support and operational systems.
The measurable deliverables and outcomes of this role would be demonstrated end to end accountability and delivery of quality Engineering solutions in relation to ongoing technical projects and architecture across the IP product range.
Key Responsibilities:
• Contributing to the build, installation and deployment of multiple complex network technologies, platforms and/or systems.
• Work closely with other internal teams to achieve a successful outcome for stakeholders.
• Work closely with the various operations teams to support planning and scheduling of network activities.
• Support the expansion and growth strategies of the network, working closely with the capacity team.
• Maintaining a high level of capability in network engineering, including new and emerging technologies, networks tools, systems, and processes so that you can model continuous learning and actively provide coaching and mentoring of other network engineering team members.
• Support the deployment and management of internal networks.
• Manage the spares and global movement of hardware.
• Support the required activities associated with the management of an international ISP – global registry support / IP address management.
Accountability Metrics:
• Agreed quarterly individual operational key results (OKR).
• Support the engineering operations associated with keeping the IP network up to date.
• Program metrics and results against pre-defined values.
• Time based projects against outcomes.
• Work closely with the wider IP team to maintain the overall network health of the IP products across both the network and overlay product range

External: Strategic and/or technology partners, contractors, consultants, and network suppliers.

• Understanding the impact of changes in the environment; working with agility and creating the conditions for embracing and driving continuous change.
• Considers enterprise impact when adjusting plans in line with changes and proactively plans for changes and develops contingency plans to minimise risk.
• Seeks feedback from customers/stakeholders and adjusts to maximise outcomes.
• Managing product lifecycles: Identifying, develop, monitor product lifecycles to maintain an up-to-date equipment portfolio.
• Transitioning to new networks and solutions - Migrates legacy networks and solutions to new networks and solutions seamlessly, with minimal impact to the customer; Transition planning, Testing, performance monitoring and decommissioning as applicable.
• Network Business and Commercial - Defines and manages business and commercial agreements for the cost-effective delivery of network solutions
• Business case: Owns the development of compelling business cases, working across the organisation to identify costs and benefits for different business units, performs sensitivity analysis and presents multiple business case options for assessment, critically evaluating designs for resilience, cost-effectiveness, scalability, security and performance
• Partners and Vendors: Significantly contributes to the development of commercial arrangements with vendors and partners to ensure cost effective delivery of high quality networks and solutions. Manages commercial relationships for a significant functional area.
• Commercial Strategy: Substantially contributes to commercial strategy to deliver required outcomes. Critically assesses technology selection to determine most economically viable solutions, taking into account deployment costs and all ongoing costs this may include consideration of capital expenditure versus consumption services models
Qualifications/Experiences:
- University graduate in Telecommunication or related study.
- Industry certification is requirement with a preference for candidates with Cisco CCIE or Juniper JNCIE certifications.
- Previous experience with Juniper and Cisco IP networking and equipment in the service provider environment.
- Excellent analytical and writing skills, with an attention to details
