Position Overview
Are you a passionate QA professional who enjoys ensuring product quality across both user-facing experiences and backend systems? We are looking for a QA Engineer II to play a key role in delivering high-quality releases through strong manual testing practices, thoughtful risk-based testing, and close cross-functional collaboration.
In this role, you will work across web and mobile platforms, validating both UI and Backend functionality through comprehensive test planning, structured exploratory testing, API validation, and workflow/data integrity checks. You will partner closely with Product and Engineering teams to improve requirement clarity, strengthen testability early in the development lifecycle, and help drive release confidence.
This role will primarily support teams working in the EU and US time zones, and the expected working hours are approximately 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM IST.
This is a great opportunity for someone detail-oriented, proactive, and excited to contribute not only to day-to-day test execution, but also to the continuous improvement of QA processes and the broader quality culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for both UI and Backend components.
- Perform UI testing across web and mobile platforms, including functional, regression, smoke, and exploratory testing.
- Conduct Backend testing, including API validation, microservices testing, workflow verification, and data integrity checks.
- Lead structured exploratory testing sessions to uncover edge cases, usability concerns, and high-risk defects.
- Review user stories and acceptance criteria to ensure clarity, completeness, and testability before development begins.
- Apply risk-based testing principles to prioritise critical functionality, high-risk edge cases, complex integrations, and areas with a higher impact of failure.
- Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to identify requirement gaps early and improve overall product quality.
- Identify, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps, expected/actual behaviour, and supporting evidence.
- Partner with developers and stakeholders to support timely defect triage and resolution.
- Participate actively in test planning, estimation, and test coverage discussions to support release readiness.
- Maintain clear documentation of test progress, results, and coverage metrics.
- Take ownership of quality for assigned product areas and contribute to release readiness and go/no-go recommendations.
- Contribute to improving QA processes, standards, and best practices across the team.
- Support efforts to increase automated test coverage across UI and Backend areas in collaboration with automation-focused team members.
- Stay up to date with QA tools, testing trends, and industry best practices.
Your qualifications are:
- Strong understanding of QA methodologies, test strategy, test coverage principles, and risk-based testing.
- Proven ability to review user stories and acceptance criteria, identify ambiguities/gaps, and improve testability early in the development lifecycle.
- Ability to write clear, high-quality test plans, test cases, and exploratory test charters, and to document defects with reproducible steps, expected vs. actual behavior, and supporting evidence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Engineering, and QA teams.
- Ownership mindset with the ability to manage quality for assigned product areas and contribute to QA process improvements and team best practices.
- Ability to mentor junior QA team members and support a culture of continuous learning and quality.
- Foundational understanding of test automation concepts and interest in supporting automation initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Candidates with strong relevant QA experience in place of a formal technical degree are also encouraged to apply.
Must Have Skills:
- 4+ years of hands-on QA experience in manual testing across UI and Backend systems (web/mobile + backend services), including strong test planning, test design, and execution skills.
- Solid experience in functional, regression, smoke, negative, and exploratory testing, with hands-on API/Backend testing (e.g., Postman) and working knowledge of basic SQL / data validation.
- Experience using defect/test management tools (e.g., Jira) and contributing to test coverage discussions, test estimation, and release readiness / go-no-go recommendations.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional product development environment.
Good to Have Skills:
- ISTQB (or equivalent) certification.
- Experience with automation tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Nightwatch, or Selenium.
- Familiarity with CI/CD systems (e.g., GitLab).
- Knowledge of Java or JavaScript.
