About the RoleWe’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the backend systems that power the Made Card and homeowner platform. You’ll work across the full lifecycle of backend development - from gathering requirements and designing architecture to implementation, testing, and ongoing maintenance. This is a role for someone who thrives in building distributed systems, mentoring others, and ensuring reliability at scale in a fast-moving startup environment.
What You’ll DoSystem Design & Development: Design and implement scalable backend endpoints and distributed systems using Python.
Database Modeling: Build and optimize data models across Postgres, DynamoDB, and Redis.
Architecture & APIs: Define and deliver APIs and backend services that support mobile (Flutter) and web (React/Next.js) applications.
Infrastructure: Work with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS to ensure reliable deployment, monitoring, and scaling.
Feature Delivery: Own the full software lifecycle - requirements, design, development, QA, deployment, and maintenance.
Performance & Reliability: Ensure backend services are performant, secure, and highly available.
Collaboration: Partner with product, frontend, and design teams to deliver end-to-end features.
Mentorship: Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and contribute to raising the engineering bar.
5–8+ years of backend engineering experience, including senior-level responsibilities.
Strong proficiency in Python with experience building distributed applications.
Expertise in database modeling and experience with Postgres, DynamoDB, and Redis.
Solid understanding of RESTful services and API design.
Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS for infrastructure and deployment.
Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, best practices).
Track record of delivering high-quality, well-structured, performant code.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills in a cross-functional environment.
