About the TeamOur Data team is the backbone of Nesto Cloud, managing the flow of data that powers Canada’s most advanced mortgage platform. As a Senior Data QA Developer, you won't just be "checking results"; you will be a specialized engineer focused on the integrity, reliability, and scalability of our data pipelines. You will collaborate closely with Data Developers to ensure our BigQuery environments, Airflow DAGs, DBT Models, and ETL processes are bulletproof.
What you’ll be doing- Architect Data Quality Frameworks: Design and build robust, automated testing suites for data pipelines using Python and SQL to validate data integrity, schema consistency, and transformation logic.
- Shift Left in Data: Partner with Data Developers and Product Managers during the design phase to define data contracts, quality gates, and acceptance criteria before code is even written.
- Automate Everything: Develop automated "Data-SLA" monitors and observability signals (e.g., Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, or custom Python tools) to catch anomalies in BigQuery and Airflow before they hit downstream reporting.
- Complex Validation: Perform deep-dive validation on complex ELT/ETL processes, ensuring high-performance datasets optimized for Power BI and internal analytics are accurate and secure.
- CI/CD Integration: Implement and maintain data-specific testing within our Git-based CI/CD workflows (using Pulumi/Terraform), ensuring every deployment is backed by automated regression.
- Continuous Improvement: Take ownership of broader data quality outcomes, improving documentation, data governance, and team workflows to make our development flow smoother and more reliable.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in Data QA, with a focus on testing complex SaaS/cloud data environments.
- Technical Mastery: Strong Python and SQL skills. You approach QA with a software engineering mindset, writing clean, maintainable automation code.
- Modern Data Stack: Hands-on experience with GCP (BigQuery) and orchestration tools like Airflow.
- Infra-as-Code: Familiarity with Pulumi or Terraform is a significant asset.
- Analytical Rigor: Deep understanding of data modeling, dimensional design, and the ability to diagnose performance bottlenecks in SQL execution plans.
- Startup Mindset: You are self-driven, thrive in fast-paced environments, and are comfortable with the occasional uncertainty of a hypergrowth startup.
- Education: B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
