Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Database Engineer
In this role, you will:
- Lead or participate in database management activities including designing highly complex logical and physical databases
- Lead highly complex data modeling, mapping, integration, and capacity planning efforts
- Perform the planning, research, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of server class databases
- Design and implement security solutions including Center for Internet Security benchmarks and auditing
- Design and certify next generation database technologies
- Consult with and advise management and multiple clients on high impact data or database management issues, influencing strategic direction
- Provide technical leadership and recommendation into the future direction of database technology
- Develop management policies, procedures, standards, and best practices
- Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
- 4+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals , Google Cloud Digital Leader , or ITIL Foundation that demonstrate foundational cloud and operational knowledge.
- Proven experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Hands-on exposure to monitoring and alerting tools aligned with SRE practices (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
- Experience with automation frameworks and scripting for operational efficiency using Shell, Python, or similar tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize hybrid cloud database environments, with a focus on performance, scalability, and security.
- Maintain uptime and reliability of database services across multiple environments.
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and operational issues.
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to critical incidents.
- Continuously improve automation and operational workflows.
- Document procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
- Collaborate with DevOps, Security, and Application teams to support business needs.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and recommend improvements.
- This role requires hands-on experience managing diverse database technologies across cloud and on-prem environments, with a strong focus on operational reliability and automation.
- Ideal candidates will have a solid background in incident and change management, scripting for automation, and working within Agile and ITIL frameworks.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible), and database performance tuning is essential.
- Certifications like Azure Fundamentals, Redis Platform, Agile or ITIL Foundation are a plus and demonstrate alignment with the role's operational and strategic responsibilities.
