We are seeking an Engineering Lead focused on Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT & Gemini to serve as the technical escalation point above the Product Operations / User Support team. This role will handle Level 2 escalations, support complex integration and data stores questions, and provide engineering expertise to resolve issues that require deeper technical investigation. You will also partner directly with Google as needed to stay current on roadmap and feature availability, and help shape a governance configuration strategy that aligns with internal legal and security policy requirements.
This role is closely tied to ongoing AI tool evaluation and rollout activity, including discussions on licensing/feature differences, connector availability and timelines, and governance requirements.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. [If applicable: For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.]
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Engineering Support
    • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex AI tool issues that cannot be resolved by the Product Operations / User Support team, including deeper troubleshooting, root-cause investigation, and resolution coordination.
    • Provide technical guidance on connector behavior and integration constraints (including questions where availability may depend on GA vs preview feature status).
  • Connector & Integration Engineering
    • Support technical enablement and configuration for AI connectors and integrations as part of enterprise efforts (e.g., planned connector workstreams and prerequisites discussions).
    • Provide technical clarity on licensing/feature mapping that impacts integration choices and deployment patterns (e.g., differences between Gemini Enterprise editions and related capabilities discussed in working sessions).
  • Vendor Engagement & Roadmap Partnership
    • Engage with the Google account team and product/engineering contacts to clarify roadmap items, feature timelines, and prerequisites needed for enterprise rollout decisions.
    • Translate roadmap updates into actionable technical implications (what changes for connectors, governance controls, rollout posture, and escalation paths).
  • Governance Configuration Strategy
    • Help configure and recommend governance controls for our AI tools in alignment with internal legal and security policy requirements, including how access and data protections are applied and enforced.
    • Partner with enterprise governance programs and processes as needed to ensure implementation decisions are documented and risk-aligned (e.g., governance/risk/compliance capture in eGRC)
    • Incorporate security controls and data protection patterns consistent with our AI enterprise controls (e.g., inheritance of existing Workspace security settings, DLP/IRM-style protections and access controls).
  • Operational Readiness
    • Define and maintain Level 2 troubleshooting playbooks/runbooks and technical escalation patterns so L1 support can route issues cleanly and consistently.
    • Participate in governance and readiness discussions tied to AI enterprise project workstreams.

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, solutions engineering, SRE/DevOps, or enterprise integration roles (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of enterprise concepts using AI tools such as Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini.
  • Knowledge on Google Cloud Project Administration, Management, governance and security.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex production issues and serving as an escalation point for user-facing platforms
  • Experience working with enterprise governance/security stakeholders to implement controls aligned to policy requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical constraints into clear guidance for support teams and stakeholders
  • Strong communication, prioritization, and follow-through across multiple concurrent requests in a ticketing system

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience implementing or supporting enterprise connectors/integrations and/or identity/access patterns at scale
  • Experience partnering directly with vendors on roadmap and feature readiness discussions
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace / Gemini, Copilot Studio (Power Platform), ChatGPT and/or Claude enterprise security controls and deployment governance concepts (e.g., controls that inherit existing Workspace security settings, data protection controls like DLP/IRM restrictions).

Join the Enterprise Technology Infrastructure Platform Services ( ETIPS ) team, driving innovation and reliability across core systems.

At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone. We believe everyone-of every race, gender, sexuality, age, location and income-deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. Today, however, there are still far too many barriers to good health which are disproportionately experienced by people of color, historically marginalized groups and those with lower incomes. We are committed to mitigating our impact on the environment and enabling and delivering equitable care that addresses health disparities and improves health outcomes - an enterprise priority reflected in our mission.
