About the Team
Join a collaborative environment where you'll work closely with enterprise and public sector sales teams to develop and execute targeted account strategies across state, federal, and vertical markets. You'll build trusted relationships with customers and prospects—including those in government and regulated industries—and serve as their primary technical contact throughout the engagement.
#LifeAtProofpoint as a Senior Sales Engineer
Partner with customer and prospect security teams for technical discovery, planning, execution, and wrap-up of Proof-of-Concept (POC) and production evaluations.
- Design and advocate for complex People-Centric Security solutions using the full Proofpoint portfolio, aligned with government frameworks such as Essential Eight, ISM, NIST, and ACSC.
- Occasionally support professional services deployments, technical training, and represent Proofpoint at industry seminars, cybersecurity forums, and trade shows.
- Share customer insights and real-world experiences—especially from the government sector—with Product Management, Marketing, and Engineering to help enhance our solutions.
- Develop deep expertise in Email Security Gateways, Advanced Persistent Threats, Threat Detection and Response, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and the evolving public sector threat landscape.
- Be open to regular interstate travel and occasional onsite engagements with government departments and agencies.
- Mentor new team members across product knowledge, sales processes, and relationship-building with commercial and government customers.
- Create and deliver training presentations for peers, account managers, and cross-functional teams, including knowledge sharing on government compliance and public-sector sales practices.
- Contribute to internal communications, documentation, and training resources.
- Help identify and solve common challenges, improving processes within the team and across the sales engineering organization.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on technical experience in roles such as Sales/Systems Engineer, Technical Account Manager, or Security Engineer, ideally with exposure to government or regulated sectors.
- Proven ability to collaborate with sales teams and partners in high-touch pre-sales technical engagements, especially within state and federal departments.
- Experience responding to government tenders, IRAP assessments, and compliance reviews.
- Comfortable presenting to diverse audiences—from technical staff to senior public officials and CISO-level stakeholders.
- Background in Enterprise or Cloud Security, including cloud/SaaS platforms, messaging, data, network, endpoint, NOC/SOC, or MSP-related cybersecurity.
- Experience selling and positioning platforms within government procurement frameworks is highly valued.
- Familiarity with at least two of the following areas:
- Cloud security and shadow IT monitoring
- IT security assessments and policy enforcement aligned to government frameworks
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP), compliance, and privacy—including cross-border or government-specific data handling
- Enterprise email solutions (e.g., O365, Exchange, G-Suite) or working knowledge of SMTP

- Strong presentation and organizational skills; proficiency in PowerPoint is essential.
