Senior Search Engineer - Hyderabad, India - 3 Days onsite Role OverviewAs a Senior Search Engineer at Nasuni, you will be a foundational contributor to our Search and MCP SaaS platform, building and evolving the systems that enable fast, relevant, and reliable access to enterprise-scale unstructured data. This role is designed for an experienced backend engineer with deep search expertise who enjoys hands-on development, relevance tuning, and operating production search systems at scale.
This role is ideal for engineers who want strong technical ownership without people management responsibilities and who enjoy working close to the system, the data, and the product.
Level & Scope Definition- Owns design and implementation of search features and APIs within defined services
- Exercises independent technical judgment within the search domain
- Contributes to relevance strategy and performance tuning in partnership with Product Management
- Responsible for reliability and operational excellence of assigned OpenSearch clusters
- Works cross-functionally but does not manage people or set org-wide strategy
- Design, build, and deploy backend search services and APIs primarily using Java
- Develop and optimize OpenSearch queries, mappings, and indexing strategies for performance and scale
- Improve search relevance using techniques such as custom scoring, function scoring, query rewriting, and boosting
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve OpenSearch cluster performance and stability issues
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and on-call rotation
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering partners to deliver measurable search quality improvements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or Solr in production
- Strong proficiency in Java for backend service development
- Experience operating and tuning search clusters in a multi-tenant or large-scale environment
- Experience improving search relevance and ranking quality
- Familiarity with AWS or Azure cloud platforms
- Experience with Kubernetes-based deployments
- Working knowledge of Python for scripting or supporting services
- Experience with Kafka or similar streaming platforms
- Exposure to A/B testing methodologies for search or ranking changes
- Experience supporting SaaS platforms with strict reliability and performance requirements
- Total professional experience: typically 5–9 years
- Search-specific experience: typically 2–4 years
