About the Role:We’re looking for a technically adept Solutions Engineer (SE) to join a cross-functional go-to-market team focused on Confluent’s Oracle XStream CDC Connector. This is a specialized role within the Data Streaming Platform (DSP) Solutions Engineering team, dedicated to enabling strategic Oracle CDC migrations, shaping solution architectures, and advancing the adoption of our next-generation connector technology across enterprise customers.
You will partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Professional Services, and Account teams to drive successful implementations of the XStream connector. This role is ideal for SEs with strong backgrounds in Oracle database internals, real-time data architectures, and distributed systems.
Lead Technical Discovery and Solution Design: Engage deeply with customers to understand their Oracle CDC requirements, validate fit, and guide the implementation of the Oracle XStream CDC Connector in both Confluent Cloud and Confluent Platform environments.
Demonstrate Product Differentiation: Articulate how Confluent’s XStream connector outperforms legacy LogMiner-based solutions and GoldenGate in terms of performance, resilience, and total cost of ownership.
Support CDC Migrations: Collaborate with Professional Services and Partner teams as part of a “Migration Factory” to de-risk and accelerate transitions from GoldenGate, Informatica, or Confluent’s v1 LogMiner connector.
Shape Customer Success: Deliver working demos, support POCs, and ensure production readiness for workloads that demand high-throughput, low-latency, and no-data-loss guarantees.
Enable Go-to-Market Execution: Train internal stakeholders and customers on XStream-specific requirements, such as Java 17 support, PDB configuration, SCN tracking, and XStream Out server setup.
Drive Field Feedback Loop: Provide detailed technical insights back to Engineering and PM, influencing the roadmap for future connector enhancements (e.g., LOB support, EOS, Exadata compatibility).
Deep Oracle Expertise: Proven experience with Oracle Database (19c, 21c) administration, replication, and CDC. Familiarity with XStream APIs, LogMiner, and optionally, Oracle GoldenGate. Hands-on experience configuring ARCHIVELOG mode, supplemental logging, and managing SCNs.
Kafka & Connect: Strong understanding of Kafka Connect architecture. Experience building or managing Kafka-based CDC pipelines.
Streaming Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with real-time architectures using Kafka, Flink, or KSQLDB. Understanding of event ordering, schema evolution, and snapshot modes (initial, no_data, recovery).
Data Integration Skills: Ability to work across diverse systems, including data lakes, cloud warehouses, and downstream apps. Experience deploying connectors into hybrid environments (on-prem Oracle → cloud Kafka).
Programming & Troubleshooting: Proficiency in Java (required for debugging connector issues), SQL, and scripting for automation. Capable of analyzing connector metrics (JMX/MBeans), schema history topics, and debug logs.
Communication & Leadership: Able to translate deep technical details into customer value and implementation plans. Experience working with DBA teams and guiding them through prerequisites and tuning.
Familiarity with Oracle GoldenGate (GG) – especially understanding of LCR Capture, multi-threading, and Active Data Guard – is highly desirable.
Knowledge of Oracle recovery internals, including UNDO, REDO logs, Flashback, and SCN offset management is a major plus.
Experience with enterprise-grade replication tools such as GoldenGate, Fivetran, Informatica CDC, or equivalent.
Expertise in Kafka Connect is useful, but deep Oracle domain experience is prioritized for this role.
Hands-on experience with Oracle XStream (especially XStream Out) is rare and valued as a great-to-have.
Past involvement in building CDC migration tools, especially for LogMiner-based v1 to XStream v2 transitions, is a bonus.
Understanding the total cost and licensing model implications of Oracle Enterprise Edition, GoldenGate, and RAC – while not mandatory – can add value during customer TCO discussions.
Experience mentoring or enabling Professional Services and partner teams in Oracle-specific projects would be beneficial.
