Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Senior Technical Writer to join the writing team that develops user documentation for the Application Networking and Security Division.

The Application Networking and Security Division’s mission is to deliver zero trust lateral security and application load balancing solutions to enterprises. Both solutions are fully integrated with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) private cloud so that enterprise IT can truly realize the benefits of a cloud operating model. Our growing portfolio includes distributed and gateway firewalls and an advanced threat (malware and ransomware) prevention solution, as well as the Avi load balancing portfolio, which includes local and global load balancers. You will work with a talented team of writers, developers and product designers to document products and solutions that prevent the next front page security breach. This Senior Technical Writer position provides a unique opportunity to develop and grow your documentation expertise in a security and load balancing product environment, while also having an impact on the product user experience through collaboration with product designers.

  • You understand the technical writing process, possess the technical expertise to explain complex technical concepts to an administrator audience, and have superb communication, leadership, and project planning skills.

Key Activities/Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other writers to develop new and revise existing technical content (release notes, user and administration guides, on-screen text) in a fast-paced environment.
  • Write for a range of customers, including new and experienced operators and administrators in the networking and security space.
  • Research writing assignments using a variety of sources including functional specifications, product requirements documents, feature use, reviewing issues, analyzing customer feedback, and interviewing subject matter experts.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation styles and standards.
  • Work as part of a distributed, global team in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate with other writing teams to develop comprehensive user documentation that spans different products.
  • Develop technical documentation using DITA tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of technical writing fundamentals, industry standard writing styles, and content organization.
  • Ability to learn complex concepts quickly and explain them with clarity and technical accuracy.
  • Ability to establish rapport and working relationships with a variety of personalities.
  • Strong logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical writing fundamentals, industry standard writing styles, and content organization.
  • Detail-oriented with a high sense of responsibility for outcomes, and passion about the impact of what you develop.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to remain calmly focused and persistent under pressure.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Highly dependable and flexible regarding work hours and critical coverage.
  • Adept at structured documentation development and knowledgeable about DITA standards and best practices.
  • B.A./B.S. in a Technical Discipline and/or English /Technical Communications and 5+ years of related work experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience documenting networking, security and load balancer products.
  • Technical Communications degree.
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence, and working in an agile development environment.
  • Experience developing how-to videos and illustrations.

Screening

  • A technical writing exam or submission of technical writing examples may be required as a part of the interview process.
  • This opportunity is an in-office position.

  • Location: This is an in-office role in Bangalore, India.
