Role Overview
Nasuni is seeking a Software Engineer – Systems (Platform) to help build and improve the Linux-based foundation of our NAS appliance platform.
This platform runs across physical appliances, virtual machines, and cloud infrastructure, providing the core runtime environment that powers Nasuni’s global file data platform.
This role is ideal for engineers who:
- enjoy working close to the Linux operating system
- care deeply about reliability, performance, and platform stability
- want to build infrastructure software used by enterprise customers
- enjoy debugging complex system behavior
This role focuses on systems development, not frontend applications or pure cloud services.
Level & Scope Definition
In this role you will:
- Implement features within Linux platform subsystems
- Build systems services primarily in Python
- Debug production issues across OS, filesystem, and networking layers
- Collaborate with senior engineers on system design and architecture
- Contribute to automation, packaging, and deployment workflows
You will own component-level development, contributing to platform capabilities while learning the deeper architecture of Nasuni’s appliance system.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Linux systems software for Nasuni’s NAS appliance platform.
- Write production-quality Python code for platform services and automation workflows.
- Build and maintain shell scripts and operational tooling supporting deployment and maintenance.
- Contribute to packaging, provisioning, and system lifecycle management.
- Debug platform issues across Linux OS, storage systems, and networking layers.
- Write automated tests using pytest or similar frameworks.
- Participate in code reviews and collaborative design discussions.
- Assist in diagnosing production issues reported by enterprise customers.
- Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve productivity while validating outputs for reliability.
Qualifications
Must-Have Qualifications
- 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong programming experience in Python
- Experience developing software in Linux environments
- Understanding of Linux operating system fundamentals
- Experience debugging software in production environments
- Experience writing automated tests
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently within defined scope
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with C or C++
- Familiarity with Linux filesystems (XFS, ext4)
- Experience with virtualization environments (ESX, KVM, Hyper-V)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
- Exposure to networking fundamentals
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience building infrastructure or platform software
- Experience debugging system performance issues
- Exposure to storage systems or distributed infrastructure
- Contributions to open-source systems projects
Experience Guidelines
- 3–6 years total software engineering experience
- 2+ years working in Linux systems environments
- 1–3 years building production Python services or tools
