As a Sr Director of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within the within the Commercial and Investment Bank, Merchant Services, you will lead a global, multidisciplinary organization spanning the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific, with direct leadership responsibility for India. You will own both platform enablement—including secure, scalable Snowflake, data, and AI capabilities—and measurable business value through insights, automation, risk and loss reduction, operational efficiency, and improved merchant experience. You will role partner closely with Product, Sales, Operations, Architecture, and Risk/Controls to deliver scalable capabilities and outcomes the field can use immediately.
Job Responsibilities
- Strategy and leadership: Translate global business and technology priorities into an India and global engineering strategy. Lead and develop managers, senior engineers, data scientists, analytics professionals, and governance teams while building a culture of accountability, inclusion, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Platform and architecture: Drive secure, governed, and cost-effective Snowflake, data, analytics, and AI capabilities. Define reference architectures, reusable components, data contracts, and scalable engineering patterns for payments-scale workloads and merchant entity resolution.
- Business value delivery: Own the Merchant Services analytics and AI roadmap, delivering dashboards, KPIs, self-service analytics, predictive insights, and decision-support products that improve payment volume, authorization performance, fraud and chargeback losses, onboarding, sales effectiveness, operational efficiency, and merchant experience.
- Agentic AI and automation: Build controlled LLM, agentic, and automation solutions for servicing, operations, engineering, and business workflows. Establish standards for evaluation, safety, human oversight, auditability, monitoring, controlled rollout, availability, and operational readiness.
- Engineering excellence: Enforce architecture, code quality, secure development, automated testing, CI/CD, release governance, observability, runbooks, incident response, rollback, and production-readiness practices. Govern availability, disaster recovery, performance, scalability, service levels, backward compatibility, and technical debt.
- Data governance: Sponsor ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, data-quality service levels, retention, access controls, and dataset certification. Standardize critical measures such as total payment volume, authorization rates, losses, disputes, and chargebacks, and drive issue remediation.
- Delivery and operations: Improve speed, quality, predictability, and transparency through agile execution, milestone and dependency management, and performance measures. Ensure resilient 24x7 operations through strong service management, automation, incident response, and root-cause learning.
- Risk and controls: Embed regulatory, cybersecurity, privacy, compliance, and audit requirements into architecture, engineering decisions, delivery processes, and daily execution.
- Talent and India capability: Own India organizational design, workforce planning, hiring, coaching, performance management, succession, retention, leadership development, and upskilling. Strengthen local leadership and connect India capabilities to global priorities and standards.
- Financial and stakeholder management: Manage budgets, capacity, vendors, cost optimization, and value realization. Build trusted partnerships across Technology, Product, Sales, Operations, Architecture, and Risk and Controls, communicating priorities, tradeoffs, dependencies, risks, and outcomes clearly.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition, 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
- Proven success leading large, multidisciplinary, globally distributed organizations and developing managers and senior technical talent, including significant engineering operations in India.
- Track record delivering enterprise analytics and AI solutions end-to-end, from intake and roadmap to production, adoption, and ongoing operations.
- Strong engineering and architecture leadership across secure SDLC, automated testing, CI/CD, release governance, operational readiness, resiliency, performance, scalability, observability, security, privacy, and disaster recovery.
- Strong knowledge of modern data platforms and governance, including data products, Snowflake or comparable platforms, metadata, lineage, data quality, metric standardization, retention, and access controls.
- Experience managing budgets, capacity, workforce plans, vendors, risks, dependencies, and business value across a complex portfolio.
- Executive stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate strategy into clear priorities, decisions, and measurable outcomes.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Hands-on Snowflake experience for scalable analytics and AI workloads, including performance and cost optimization patterns.
- Experience operating LLM or agentic systems with evaluation, safety controls, monitoring, audability, and human oversight.
- Leadership experience with high-throughput, low-latency, 24x7 platforms in regulated environments; merchant payments experience is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with authorization performance, disputes and chargebacks, fraud and loss, onboarding and KYC, servicing, and sales workflows
