About the Team
Yahoo’s Global Network Infrastructure team (GNIS) is responsible for the core Network Infrastructure and shared services required to support all Yahoo services globally, including our CDN, Sports, News, Finance and Weather media channels, advertising engines, video and search.
We design and build scalable, high-performance networks, provide long-term storage strategy and automation, manage global name resolution and routing, provide capacity and performance consultation for Yahoo properties, manage Yahoo-wide UNIX distributions & components and connectivity to large scale public cloud providers.
About the Role
Yahoo’s Network team is looking for a technical engineer to build and maintain its global infrastructure. This person will work with internal and external customers to gather requirements, provide guidance and network support. This position requires a highly technical person that has a deep understanding of network protocols, security, good operational experience and the ability to isolate, analyze and resolve issues.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

7+ years of experience
-
Experience with large scale global network (production, backbone and corporate) environments.
-
Experience managing enterprise LAN/WAN, wireless, authentication, and VPN infrastructures
-
Knowledge of current networking systems including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load-balancers and all IP-based protocols
-
Expert level experience with Juniper, Cisco and Ciena required
-
Strong knowledge in TCP/IP, L2/L3 protocols, LAN, Spanning-tree, WAN, Metro, IPv4, IPv6, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, MPLS, QoS/CoS, MACSec
-
Strong hands on knowledge and experience in layer 1 - Fiber Optic, OTDR, BERT, WDM, ROADM, etc
-
Experience with network testing equipment and software, e.g., layer-1 switches (e.g. Calient), IXIA, Spirent, iTest, Velocity, etc
-
Strong working knowledge of all OSI Layers focusing on the network stack - TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, MPLS-TE, VXLAN/EVPN, and Anycast concepts

Experience writing automation code in at least one of the following: Python, Perl, Javascript, JS/web frameworks and XML+xpath

Knowledge of source code management systems, version control tools and developing web services

Excellent communication and network diagramming and network documentation knowledge required

Create the SOP's and automate repeatable operational work
Responsibilities:
-
Provide consulting and guidance for all new Yahoo applications and/or projects that affect network resources and provide consulting on existing application deployments
-
Design, Document, and Support end-to-end networking solutions to support global deployment of Yahoo services including Global backbone—WAN, Metro, Data Center—LAN

Provide training and implementation guidance on newly introduced technologies, designs, and equipment.

Hands-on evaluation and testing of new platforms for Yahoo networking including development of test plans for current and next generation platforms, work closely with a team of test engineers through test cycles, and partner with industry vendors on next generation platforms that will meet Yahoo’s needs in the future platform selection.

Continued support for all Yahoo technology, design, and platforms

Contribute to automation framework for network configuration and troubleshooting

Use internal tooling and networking knowledge to diagnose problems on the network and work toward remediation.

Operates at a Tier3 support level taking incidents from the Network OC and SRE Teams and sees them through to completion.
