About OpenGov

At OpenGov bold ideas ship daily and rapid iteration turns directly into measurable customer impact. We stay relentlessly aligned with customer outcomes while pushing the frontier of AI-driven software development, using cutting-edge AI tools and techniques to build systems that scale.

OpenGov powers how governments budget, procure, manage assets, and report to their communities. We serve over 2,000 agencies and our platform handles some of the most consequential data in public life.

About the role

You’ll deliver new product capabilities across our platform, working across the full stack — from database models to UI components — and owning features end-to-end. AI is central to how you’ll work: you’ll use AI-assisted development tools daily to accelerate your output, build AI-powered product experiences for our customers, and help establish the practices that make our team effective in this new operating model.

What you’ll ship
  • Build and improve APIs, microservices, and frontend experiences that power government agencies at scale

  • Own features end-to-end: collaborate with Product and Design to define the problem, build the solution, ship it, and monitor it in production

  • Build AI-powered product features — from intelligent data analysis and agent-driven workflows to AI-assisted user experiences that transform how government teams work

  • Use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as a core part of your workflow to accelerate coding, debugging, and documentation

  • Produce clean, well-documented code and conduct thorough reviews of both human-written and AI-generated code, with a sharp eye for the subtle failure modes each produces

  • Collaborate across the organization to translate business priorities into shipped features that drive customer success

You may be a good fit if you
  • Have 8+ years of professional experience building scalable software in an agile environment

  • Have strong experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (React or similar) and backend development

  • Have hands-on experience with Data Lake and Data Warehouse architectures, including medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) patterns, and designing or maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines with well-defined schemas, data contracts, and quality expectations

  • Experienced with cloud-based data and compute platforms, preferably AWS including services such as Glue, Lambda, Athena, DMS, RDS, Redshift, and Iceberg table formats, and have worked with near-real-time or CDC-based data ingestion pipelines

  • Are comfortable working across the stack — frontend, backend, data layer — and shipping features end-to-end

  • Have built heavily utilized enterprise SaaS software

  • Actively use AI-assisted development tools and have a feel for when they accelerate you vs. when they lead you astray

  • Have experience building AI-powered product features: agents, AI-driven UX, workflow automation, or retrieval systems (direct ML/model training experience not required)

  • Have built APIs, designed database models (SQL and NoSQL), and worked with event-driven patterns

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where new ideas ship daily, staying closely aligned to customer needs and outcomes

Strong candidates may also have
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with customers to improve product experiences

  • A track record of experimenting with new AI tools and bringing effective ones to your team

  • Track record of driving team improvement through mentoring and process innovation

  • Previous work in govtech, fintech, or regulated SaaS environments
