Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Embark on a transformative journey as Vice President - Solution Architect, where you'll spearhead the evolution of our Digital Platform Engineering function. You must be  specializing in Mobile Development and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), you will be responsible for both hands-on technical leadership and strategic guidance to cross-functional engineering teams. You will play a pivotal role in shaping Barclays’ mobile application portfolio (including React Native and native iOS/Android) and AEM platforms, ensuring best-in-class technology solutions and product experiences. In this highly visible and impactful role, you will collaborate with senior stakeholders, product managers, designers, and other engineering leaders to drive innovation, performance, and long-term growth. You will work closely with your colleagues in the wider cloud and middleware organization to bring their products to life as part of a modern developer-focused experience. Additionally, your role requires effective stakeholder management, leadership, and decision-making to support business strategy and risk management. 

To be successful as a Vice President - Solution Architect, you should have experience with: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Progressive experience in software engineering, with a leadership role delivering large-scale mobile applications and digital platforms.
  • Mobile Expertise: Hands-on experience with React Native, native iOS (Swift/Objective-C), and native Android (Java/Kotlin). Familiarity with mobile CI/CD tools and common frameworks (e.g., Gradle, Fastlane, etc.) is essential.
  • AEM Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) including components, templates, workflows, and integrations with other Adobe Experience Cloud services.
  • Technical Stack: Strong command of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud services (AWS/Azure).
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrable ability to lead and inspire teams, manage performance, handle conflict, and drive a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.

Some highly valued skills include: 

  • Prior experience in financial services or regulated environments, understanding compliance and security standards relevant to enterprise software deployments.
  • Working experience with large volumes of data in financial services domain
