As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at Mercer, you will be instrumental in leading our quality engineering initiatives across a comprehensive development landscape, encompassing UI, Integration, and Unit testing. This senior role demands a profound understanding of software engineering and testing methodologies, with a particular focus on driving the overall test strategy for AI-integrated software solutions. You will collaborate closely with Software Engineers, Test Engineers, and Data Scientists to ensure the delivery of high-quality software products that effectively leverage AI technologies. Additionally, you will provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to your team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
What you need to have:
We are seeking candidates with a proven track record in delivering both features and tests across multiple products, particularly those that incorporate AI technologies. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience working with agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum or Kanban), Lean practices, and Continuous Delivery approaches such as Continuous Integration, Test-Driven Development, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Strong expertise in test automation frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, WebDriverIO, Appium, or Cypress, with a focus on testing AI-driven features.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as JavaScript, Python, or TypeScript.
- Familiarity with API testing tools like Postman, Bruno or SoapUI.
- Knowledge of performance testing tools such as JMeter or Gatling.
- Experience with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines using tools like ADO, Jenkins, or GitHub.
- Understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, especially regarding AI services and deployments.
- Knowledge of database testing techniques and tools, including SQL and NoSQL databases.

- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive test strategy across the entire development estate, focusing on UI, Integration, and Unit testing for AI-driven solutions.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers, Test Engineers, and Data Scientists to design and develop robust, scalable test frameworks, tools, and automation scripts that accommodate AI models and algorithms.
- Drive the adoption of best practices in testing and quality assurance, ensuring compliance with industry standards and guidelines, particularly for AI and machine learning applications.
- Define and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the testing process, including metrics specific to AI model performance and accuracy.
- Conduct thorough testing of software applications, including AI components, analyse test results, and provide detailed reports to stakeholders, highlighting issues and areas for improvement.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and advancements in testing methodologies, especially those related to AI and machine learning, and promote their adoption within the team.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning, particularly in AI testing.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, architects, product owners, and quality assurance professionals, to ensure seamless integration of testing activities within the development process.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in Software Engineering, Test Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an SDET or in a similar role, with a strong background in software development and testing, particularly for AI applications.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript (MEAN), C#, or Python, along with experience in test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, WebDriverIO, Cypress).
- Solid understanding of software testing principles, techniques, and tools, including unit testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Jest, NUnit) and mocking frameworks (e.g., Mockito, Moq).
- Experience with UI, Integration, and Unit testing, with the ability to design and develop robust test frameworks and automation scripts that include AI components.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and propose effective solutions, particularly in AI contexts.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and guide team members.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality software products, including those that leverage AI technologies.
