Purpose of the role
To design, develop, and execute testing strategies to validate functionality, performance, and user experience, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve defects, and continuously improve testing processes and methodologies, to ensure software quality and reliability.
Accountabilities
- Development and implementation of comprehensive test plans and strategies to validate software functionality and ensure compliance with established quality standards.
- Creation and execution automated test scripts, leveraging testing frameworks and tools to facilitate early detection of defects and quality issues. .
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams to analyse requirements, participate in design discussions, and contribute to the development of acceptance criteria, ensuring a thorough understanding of the software being tested.
- Root cause analysis for identified defects, working closely with developers to provide detailed information and support defect resolution.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

To be successful as an Automation Test Engineer, you should have experience with:
Strong proficiency in Java, with a deep understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and ability to develop maintainable Automation Frameworks.
Hands-on experience in backend automation, including Selenium WebDriver, TestNG/JUnit, and API testing using REST Assured/Postman.
Strong scripting expertise in Java + Selenium, along with experience in BDD frameworks (Cucumber/Gherkin).
Good working knowledge of SQL / PL-SQL and Unix / Linux environments.
Exposure to middleware automation and integration testing frameworks.
Experience with GitLab Duo and modern automation tooling.
Extensive knowledge of the E2E Testing lifecycle, core testing processes, and multiple test approaches (functional, integration, system, regression).
Strong expertise in test design techniques, test pattern frameworks, and E2E Automation Strategy Development.
Proven experience in API testing, database testing, and end-to-end test validation across complex systems.
Hands-on experience in defect management processes, root cause analysis, and quality improvement practices.
Strong capabilities in test scenario definition, test case design, review, and execution.
Experience in test analysis, requirements analysis/review, and risk profiling techniques.
Experience in supporting, maintaining, and enhancing automation frameworks across iterative development, system testing, and regression cycles.
Strong knowledge of version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins/GitLab CI, including integration of automated tests into build pipelines.
Experience in analysing program documentation to derive requirements, system functionalities, and automation opportunities.
Hands-on experience with test management tools (e.g., JIRA) to manage testing lifecycle and report testing metrics.
Understanding of Agile testing methodologies, including estimation techniques, sprint planning, and delivery tracking.
Understanding of Lean Software Development fundamentals, object-oriented design, and design pattern libraries.
Experience working on large-scale, complex integration program.
Experience in planning and managing complex testing program and coordinating across multiple delivery streams.
Experience in managing large teams and global delivery models, including vendors and distributed teams.
Knowledge of ISO 20022 payment messaging standards and financial services domain (desirable).
Knowledge of governance frameworks, data/document management, and quality assurance controls.
Understanding of test improvement measurement metrics and continuous improvement practices.
Awareness of industry-standard testing certifications/training.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to engage across technical and business stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively across program disciplines (Product, Architecture, Ops, Vendors).
