Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Cloud FinOps / Cost Optimization Specialist to lead the financial governance, unit economics analysis, and cost optimization of our multi-million dollar public cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will analyze cloud consumption telemetry, audit wasted resources, negotiate vendor pricing limits, and systematically reduce public cloud expenditures while maintaining engineering speed and application performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and govern Cloud FinOps frameworks across public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, and GCP), establishing cost-allocation structures, tagging compliance matrices, and unit economics guardrails.
- Analyze complex cloud billing telemetry and usage trends, utilizing advanced optimization tooling to identify idle compute resources, orphaned storage, and unoptimized network pathways.
- Orchestrate commitment management lifecycles, strategically sourcing, monitoring, and balancing Reserved Instances (RIs), Savings Plans, and Spot Instance allocations to maximize discount rates.
- Build automated cost governance alerts and forecasting models, writing policy-as-code rules to flag budget anomalies, resource scaling spikes, and environment cost drifts in real time.
- Lead cross-functional cloud cost efficiency sprints, collaborating with DevOps and SRE teams to drive infrastructure remediation tasks like rightsizing VMs, tiering cold storage, and configuring auto-scaling thresholds.
- Establish multi-tenant cost visibility metrics, constructing custom dashboards (e.g., CloudHealth, Vantage, AWS Cost Explorer) to show individual product divisions their direct infrastructure financial impact.
- Coordinate cloud vendor pricing and enterprise agreement reviews, assembling cloud usage data to support contract negotiations, private pricing agreements, and cloud spending commitments.
Requirements
- 5 to 9 years of core systems engineering, IT financial management, or cloud DevOps experience, with at least 3+ dedicated years actively designing, building, and governance structures within Cloud FinOps models.
- Strong technical mastery of cloud billing architectures, data analytics query structures (SQL, Athena), infrastructure cost management engines, and cloud resource provisioning patterns.
- Deep structural understanding of public cloud computing pricing models, network data transfer costs, distributed infrastructure constraints, and cloud budgeting lifecycles.
- Mandatory certification: FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Professional.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience implementing automated cloud optimization scripts using Python, Bash, or infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) policy gates.
- Background working within highly distributed software engineering organizations managing large-scale container (Kubernetes) shared cluster cost allocation models.
