Job Description

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required with the aim of ensuring that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure.  Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through the application of software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response. 

Accountabilities

  • Build Engineering:  Development, delivery, and maintenance of high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Including the identification of the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements.
  • Incident Management: Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages. Use of data to drive down mean time to resolution.
  • Automation:  Development and implementation of automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising software scripting/coding disciplines.
  • Security: Implementation of a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorised access.
  • Teamwork:  Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data driven approach.
  • Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

You'll spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to revolutionise our digital offerings, ensuring unparalleled customer experiences.

To be successful as a Cloud & Virtualisation Engineer you should have experience with:

  • Deep knowledge of vCenter and ESXi installation, configuration / troubleshooting.
  • Fair knowledge about VMware SAN / VCF infrastructure using SDDC manager.
  • Manage weekend Complex/ L3 Changes.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills get along well with others.
  • Experience on vRA, vRO, vROPs, vSAN, vSAN Max, vRLI(Certification will be advantage).
  • Hands on Experience on HP ILO & Dell idrac.
  • NSX & NSXT Basic Knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of VMware Cloud Foundation.
  • Basic Knowledge of vIDM, vRLCM.
  • A good understanding of other infrastructure areas and their interaction with the virtual environment: servers, storage, operating systems, databases and network.
  • Ability to build & maintain a strong working relationship with other technical teams using SRE model & mindset.
  • Manage escalated tickets from Service Ops.
  • Ability to manage Major incidents.
  • Deep understanding on ITIL.
  • Able to multi-task, can manage and prioritize several projects to meet deadlines.
  • Performs with minimal supervision, works well independently. Ability to operate Team as part of collaborative effort.
  • Must be able to work under pressure, take clear ownership of issues and drive to ensure successful closure for the customer, peers and IT Production.
  • Risk & Audit Compliance.
  • Experience in Virtualization and Cloud Technology.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Work with Engineering and introduce changes in infrastructure.
  • Provides input into Cloud & Virt project plans.
  • Management of tasks and responsibilities to ensure the efficient running of the Supported Services.
  • Coach and develop the skills of other less experienced staff.
  • VCP certificated and VCAP will be added advantage.
  • Preferred Certification: ITIL, VMware Certified Professional (VCP) and AWS Certification.
  • Scripting experience knowledge would be added advantage.
