Role Overview
The Director, Business Development is responsible for driving business growth and strategic customer engagement across Mastercard's key accounts and partners in Malaysia. This role leads the identification and execution of new business opportunities, develops senior-level customer relationships, and partners with internal stakeholders to deliver sustainable revenue growth, market share expansion, and long-term strategic value for Mastercard.
The role serves as a trusted advisor to customers and internal stakeholders, leveraging deep industry knowledge and commercial expertise to develop and execute growth strategies across Mastercard's products, services, and solutions.
The Role• Lead the development and execution of strategic business development plans to drive growth, volume, market share, and revenue across assigned customer portfolios.• Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key customers, partners, and industry stakeholders.• Identify, evaluate, and execute new business opportunities, partnerships, and market initiatives that support Mastercard's strategic objectives.• Drive the sales and implementation process for new products, services, and innovative payment solutions.• Provide strategic consultative support to customers on industry trends, market developments, and Mastercard capabilities.• Lead Mastercard's engagement across marketing, acquiring, and customer growth initiatives, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.• Collaborate closely with Account Management, Product, Marketing, Services, Finance, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to deliver customer outcomes.• Oversee account planning, business reviews, portfolio performance, and investment strategies across customer relationships.• Manage business cases, commercial negotiations, and strategic proposals to support growth opportunities.• Monitor competitive, regulatory, and market developments to identify emerging opportunities and risks.• Act as a leader and mentor within the market, fostering collaboration, commercial excellence, and a growth-oriented culture.
All About You• Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.• Significant experience in business development, relationship management, sales, consulting, banking, payments, technology, or financial services.• Proven track record of delivering business growth, managing complex customer relationships, and leading strategic commercial initiatives.• Strong understanding of the banking, payments, fintech, and digital commerce ecosystem.• Demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and negotiate with senior executives and decision-makers.• Strong commercial acumen with experience developing business cases, growth strategies, and revenue-generating initiatives.• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.• Ability to navigate and influence within a highly matrixed global organization.• Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.• Self-starter with the ability to operate independently and drive results in a dynamic environment.• Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and business analytics tools.• Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia is preferred to support engagement with local customers, partners, and stakeholders in the Malaysian market.
