Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

To be a successful Lead Software Engineer - VP, you should have experience with:

  • Extensive hands-on experience in Java, including core Java, object-oriented programming, collections, generics, exception handling, concurrency, JVM concepts, and performance optimization.

  • Strong professional experience developing production-grade applications and services using Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem.

  • Advanced SQL capability with strong understanding of relational databases, schema design, indexing, query optimization, transaction isolation, locking, and data integrity principles.

  • Demonstrable experience with Python 3 for software development, scripting, automation, data processing, tooling, or platform engineering use cases.

  • Sound knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including programming principles, data structures, algorithms, complexity analysis, and structured problem solving.

  • Strong understanding of RDBMS concepts, ACID transactions, consistency models, concurrency control, and database-backed application architecture.

  • Strong understanding of system design and engineering concepts, including APIs, microservices, distributed systems, scalability, resilience, caching, messaging, event-driven architecture, observability, and fault tolerance.

  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across application, database, infrastructure, integration, and production environments.

  • Experience with source control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, build tooling, release practices, and engineering governance.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Significant professional experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale applications.

  • Prior experience in investment banking, capital markets, trading, risk, or financial services technology is strongly preferred.

  • Experience leading technical delivery for complex platforms, systems, or cross-functional engineering initiatives.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience with cloud platforms, containerization, DevOps tooling, messaging technologies, or high-performance computing would be advantageous.
