Job Title: Principal Software Engineer

Impact & contribution
As a Principal Software Engineer within Payments Technology – HV & IP, you will be responsible for implementing the designs within your application to align to PaaS Architecture.
Specifically, as a Principal Software Engineer, you are expected to develop solutions and guide design to drive outcomes across the Core Product Systems within High Value & Internation Payments. You are responsible for design analysis and the estimation process from Business Case, ideation, discovery and inception phases
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead high performing API and Cloud Engineering team
- Ownership and governance of solution designs
- Adopt a ‘Design to Run’ mentality to architect robust solutions that are fully supportable in a production environment
- Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, design reviews, and mentoring of senior engineers.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and Delivery Leads to align technical solutions with business goals.
- Champion DevSecOps practices and continuous delivery pipelines.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and security standards in all engineering deliverables.
- Provide developmental advice and consult for business case/ideation, discovery, inception and enhancement requests by examining current vs target architectures ensuring align with ES strategy and architecture standards
- Collaborate with upstream and downstream system representatives to ensure an integrated end to end solution is delivered to achieve the desired outcomes
- Proactively seek opportunities for continuous improvement of Core Product systems and data to leverage existing capabilities
Essential Skills
- 14+ years of experience in software engineering.
- 3+ years in a Principal Engineer or Staff Engineer role.
- Proven experience in the financial services domain, especially in payments or transaction processing.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in engineering teams and across tools and technologies.
- Experience working in agile (scrum) environments.
- Strong risk mindset with the ability to identify, discuss, and act on risks.
- Applied AI/ML experience, including:
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Model Control Protocols (MCP)
- Generative AI and Agentic AI
- Engineering-focused AI tools (e.g., CoPilot)
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/master’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology or any similar stream
