Job Description
Summary:
Rockwell is a leading technology company, building a mix of hardware, software, and services solutions supporting high demand manufacturing customers. Our technology stacks and development environments are highly diverse. The DevEx Engineer candidate must be customer obsessed with the technical and collaborative ability to form strong partnerships with multiple development, infrastructure, security, and operational teams. The role will design, engineer, and support the long-term architecture, provisioning, monitoring, and enrichment of Development Environments, with the ultimate goal of improving the Developer Experience.
We are looking for someone with a strong background in the infrastructure, security, and build requirements of modern software platforms. The DevEx Engineer will be the go-to technical expert to assist Developers with networking, firewall, system build, and infrastructure provisioning in CI/CD pipelines. This will include the creation and ongoing support of network, firewall, Windows/Linux systems, and platform Engineering components, reusable via portal or APIs by developers. The DevEx Engineer will be expected to assist with build automation and resolve issues between build systems and source code repositories.
You will report to Team Lead.
Your Responsibilities:
- Improve the experience of Rockwell's Developers through first class network and systems engineering and support.
- Resolve platform/systems or network issues in build chains or test environments, driving highly reliable and repeatable build automation.
- Assist developers with infrastructure issues that may be blocking applications, such as routing, firewall, CDN, WAF or operating system configuration.
- Co-locate with Development teams to drive improvements and reliability of lower environments.
- Enable stream/product aligned teams to deliver work with substantial autonomy through Infrastructure As Code.
- Partner across Rockwell's Development teams in the creation of reusable infrastructure services.
- Collaborate with Development, Security, and Infrastructure teams in the creation and operational support of lower environments tailored to improve the experience of Developers while maintaining the security of Rockwell's Intellectual Property.
- Join product teams in large build events and work through completion
- Champion complete build and production support automation and help drive a culture of automation at Platform and Network layers.
- Build observability into build chains, CI/CD pipelines, and automations of all environments.
- Collaborate with Build/DevOps/SRE Engineers in the creation and operational support of CI/CD pipelines and pipeline templates.
- Ensure consistency between Production and Lower environments.
- Drive initiatives to automate development processes, reduce friction, and eliminate bottlenecks at Platform and Network layers.
- Establish metrics, KPIs, and monitor Network and Platform products to measure Developer satisfaction.
The Essentials - You Will Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Minimum of 8 year's experience in Network Operations or Engineering roles.
- Minimum of 5 year's experience in Systems Operations or Engineering roles – Windows or Linux
- Experience with Continuous Delivery practices, Agile/SAFe, across a large organization.
- Ability to collaborate and influence a diverse group of peers with a variety of software development requirements.
- The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
- Solid skills in the creation of Technical Roadmaps – organizing work for the development team following Scrum/Agile principles.
- Extraordinary internal customer focus – the successful candidate should come prepared with stories demonstrating improvement in developer experience.
- Strong speaking and writing skills in English.
- Deep understanding of successful network and platform components, their architecture, durability, provisioning, monitoring, and lifecycle.
- A classic “systems thinker” – able to see all the interacting parts and chart a path to an end solution.
- Excellent collaboration skills and a partnering mindset. 0 tolerance for “not invented here” thinking.
- Track record of innovation in platform automation and IDPs – linking network, system, storage, DBs, meshes, and other sub-components of applications.
