Mastercard is seeking a Senior AI Engineer (Level 7) to design, build, and operate production grade AI systems that deliver real world business impact at scale. In this role, you will be responsible for translating advanced AI and machine learning techniques into reliable, governed, and observable solutions embedded within enterprise platforms.
You will work closely with product managers, software engineers, and data partners to productionize AI capabilities, ranging from machine learning models to LLM based components, while ensuring operational excellence, responsible AI practices, and long term maintainability.
This role is ideal for an experienced AI engineer who thrives at the intersection of model development, system reliability, and enterprise governance.Role & Responsibilities
As a Senior AI Engineer, you will:
• Design, develop, and deploy scalable AI and machine learning systems that address complex business problems and operate reliably in production environments. • Productionize models through robust training, evaluation, inference, and deployment pipelines, following CI/CD best practices.• Implement and maintain evaluation frameworks for model performance, safety, quality, and drift across the model lifecycle.• Develop AI solutions using a range of techniques, including classical ML, deep learning, and LLM based architectures, selecting the right approach for each use case.• Apply responsible AI principles, ensuring solutions meet Mastercard's standards for governance, ethics, security, and regulatory compliance.• Collaborate with Software Engineering partners to integrate AI capabilities into distributed systems and platforms.• Monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve AI systems in production, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.• Document models, workflows, and design decisions to support reproducibility and knowledge sharing.• Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.Required Experience & Skills
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, or Engineering, with significant hands-on experience leading and delivering complex Gen AI or ML engineering programs in production environments.• Expert-level, hands-on experience designing, building, and deploying large language model (LLM) applications, agentic systems, and RAG pipelines - from prototype to production.• Deep proficiency with LLM ecosystems: OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Hugging Face, LangChain/LangGraph, and open-source foundation models (LLaMA, Mistral, Falcon, etc.).• Strong command of Gen AI engineering patterns: prompt engineering, chain-of-thought reasoning, tool/function calling, vector embeddings, semantic search, and agent memory architectures.• Solid applied knowledge of ML fundamentals - predictive modeling, deep learning (PyTorch, TensorFlow), and statistical techniques - used in tandem with Gen AI for hybrid, interpretable systems.• Excellent Python engineering skills including async programming, API development (FastAPI), and building inference-ready microservices; SQL proficiency required.• Hands-on experience with cloud AI infrastructure (AWS SageMaker, Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, or GCP Vertex AI) and familiarity with MLOps/LLMOps tooling (MLflow, Weights & Biases, etc.).• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills - with the ability to translate complex Gen AI concepts into business value and lead cross-functional teams toward delivery.Leveling & Scope
This role aligns to Senior AI Engineer (Level 7) within Mastercard's AI Engineering job family, with expectations of independent execution, technical leadership within projects, and influence on solution design without direct people management responsibilities.
