Role Description
- Service Solutions & AI is the domain revolutionizing Deutsche Bank's Private Bank through holistic process automation and AI innovation. Within this critical area, the "Customer Journey Solutions" team is central to shaping its future. We make a significant contribution to the target architecture by driving a common platform, fostering growth initiatives, and optimizing processes. Our key initiatives include the operation and development of the dbCORE low-code platform for process design, creating online product sales and self-service offerings for all channels, building a dedicated product sales and service shop for easy integration, and delivering PB-wide Ident & Sign solutions.
- As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing backend software components aligned with evolving business requirements. You will work across all phases of the software development lifecycle, taking ownership of delivering complex features end‑to‑end with high quality while operating within a global, distributed agile team.
- You will contribute meaningfully to design and architecture discussions, ensuring both functional and non‑functional requirements—performance, reliability, scalability, and security—are fully addressed. You will actively participate in Deutsche Bank’s engineering practice, championing modern coding standards, testing strategies, and quality‑focused engineering approaches.

Your key responsibilities
- Software Development & Ownership
- Design and develop backend components according to business and technical requirements within the Digital Sales domain.
- Deliver complex features end to end, ensuring high quality, maintainability, and operational readiness.
- Ensure backend services meet stringent non functional requirements (performance, reliability, observability, resilience).
- Technical Design & Architecture Contribution
- Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to solution design, ensuring alignment with engineering and domain standards.
- Engage in review of designs, code, and test strategies to maintain engineering excellence.
- Engineering Best Practices & Quality
- Promote modern engineering practices-clean code, CI/CD, unit & integration testing, automated quality gates, API design standards.
- Work closely with quality engineering teams, applying strong testing methodologies and API level validation.
- Collaboration & Agile Delivery
- Contribute effectively within a global, distributed agile team, participating in ceremonies, backlog refinement, planning, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, frontend engineers, and cloud/SRE partners to deliver customer focused backend solutions.

Your skills and experience
- Technical Expertise
- Several years of hands-on experience in backend software engineering designing & implementing business critical features.
- Fluent in building RESTful APIs with either:
- Java (Spring Boot, Spring Security) or
- Node.js (Express with TypeScript).
- Strong experience building containerized services, ideally using Kubernetes or cloud native orchestration platforms.
- Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
- Familiarity with build tools such as Maven, Webpack, and test frameworks for unit and integration testing.
- Comfortable working with OpenAPI specifications, Postman workspaces, and OAuth2 authentication flows.
- Soft Skills & Mindset
- Strong passion for delivering customer focused, scalable solutions in a collaborative agile environment.
- Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong communication skills for cross team engineering collaboration.
- Education & Language
- Bachelor's/master’s degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
