Morgan Stanley is looking to extend this tech-forward strategy to Equity Research, building a team focused on modernizing both how our analysts access the information they need and the tools they use to process it. This role affords the opportunity to get in on the ground floor, sitting with the business to help build the next-generation of development and deployment tooling across a diverse set of tech stacks and shaping the Equity Research process for the next decade. We’re looking for a forward-thinking software engineer who’s excited to build intelligent, high-impact, data-driven products.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in Python, data manipulation, JavaScript, Git, and basic server & internet protocol knowledge. Prior experience in the financial industry is not required; candidates from software companies are welcome

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Dash applications, including UI layouts, callbacks, and backend integrations.

  • Perform data cleaning, transformation, and manipulation using Python (Pandas).

  • Build and customize interactive features using JavaScript within Dash applications or external web contexts.

  • Maintain, update, and deploy JavaScript based applications

  • Automate data workflows and handle Excel/CSV file operations.

  • Optimize application performance and debug multi-layer issues.

  • Use Git for version control, branching strategies, pull requests, and team collaboration.

  • Work within server environments to deploy, configure, and monitor applications.

  • Apply understanding of internet protocols (HTTP, REST APIs, DNS basics, client–server architecture).

  • Utilize Bash commands for scripting, environment setup, and automation.

  • Collaborate across engineering, product, and analytics teams to deliver scalable solutions.

  • Maintain clean, modular, well-documented codebases and follow best engineering practices.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of industry experience in software or data applications development roles.

  • Strong hands-on experience with:

    • Dash (Plotly Dash) development

    • Python + Pandas for data manipulation and backend development

    • JavaScript for web based applications and interactive features

  • Proficiency with Git: branching, merging, pull requests, versioning workflows.

  • Understanding of servers, hosting environments, and internet protocols (HTTP, REST, DNS, networking basics).

  • Competency in Excel operations and data-processing automation.

  • Experience with Bash commands for scripting and environment management.

  • Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON formats, and data pipelines.

  • Experience with Nginx/Gunicorn or similar server tools.

  • Strong understanding of SQL, including query optimization, indexing basics, and relational schema design.

  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in agile teams and communicate clearly.
