Job Description:

Role Specifics

  • This is a full-time individual contributor position located in Pune, India.
  • The role will focus on FPGA-based board development projects concentrated in Pune and similar time zones.
  • The qualified candidate will own the architecture, design, and delivery of high-speed boards based on marketing and product requirements, from concept through bring-up and release.
  • The qualified candidate will work closely with layout, RTL, firmware, and systems teams to ensure boards are delivered on schedule with high quality.
  • The successful candidate will be open and willing to both (a) share best-known methods in board design, signal integrity, and thermal management with the existing team, and (b) learn from the team about the specific needs of highly programmable FPGA platforms. This role requires being both a strong educator and an open-minded student.
  • Occasional travel as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop FPGA-based boards from marketing requirements, translating them into hardware specifications, architecture, schematics, and bill of materials.
  • Design high-speed board interfaces including LPDDR4/5, PCIe Gen3/Gen4, MIPI, 1G/10G/25G Ethernet, and USB 2.0/3.0/3.1.
  • Own board-level signal integrity and power integrity planning, including stack-up definition, impedance control, constraint development, and pre- and post-layout analysis.
  • Perform board-level thermal analysis and drive thermal mitigation strategies to meet reliability and performance targets.
  • Drive component engineering activities, including component selection, qualification, second-source strategy, lifecycle and obsolescence management, and supply risk assessment.
  • Work closely with layout engineers on placement, routing strategy, and design reviews to complete layout on schedule.
  • Collaborate with component suppliers, PCB fabrication houses, and assembly partners to resolve issues and meet cost, quality, and delivery commitments.
  • Plan and lead board bring-up, working with RTL and firmware teams to complete bring-up, debug, and validation activities on time.
  • Create and maintain complete design documentation, including specifications, schematics, design review records, test plans, bring-up reports, and release packages.
  • Lead design reviews and provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including ASIC, software, systems, manufacturing, and product management, to align board development with product roadmaps.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design methodologies, reuse, and best practices across board development projects.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in hardware and board design, with multiple products taken from concept to production.
  • Strong understanding of FPGA architectures and FPGA-based board design, including power sequencing, configuration, clocking, and I/O planning.
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed interfaces: LPDDR4/5, PCIe Gen3/Gen4, MIPI (D-PHY/C-PHY), 1G/10G/25G Ethernet, and USB 2.0/3.0/3.1.
  • Proven expertise in high-speed board design, including SI/PI analysis and use of simulation tools.
  • Good understanding of board-level thermal analysis and cooling techniques.
  • Solid knowledge of component engineering, including vendor evaluation, part qualification, and BOM optimization.
  • Experience working with PCB layout tools and close collaboration with layout engineers.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, TDRs, and VNAs.
  • Experience in board bring-up planning and execution, working with RTL and firmware teams.
  • Excellent documentation skills and the ability to produce clear, complete design artifacts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with suppliers, fabrication and assembly partners, and internal teams.
  • Proven ability to work with multiple groups across different sites and time zones.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM), design for test (DFT), and design for reliability.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC and regulatory compliance considerations.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Tcl, etc.) for automation of design and test tasks.
