Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, implement, and maintain conceptual, Logical and Physical data models that meet business data/process and technology requirements, by using designs and data strategies across a wide selection of platforms. 

Accountabilities

  • Analysis and documentation of business requirements to translate them into data models aligned with organisational goals.
  • Development and maintenance of data dictionaries and glossaries to define data elements and their usage.
  • Analysis and monitoring of data usage patterns to identify opportunities for data optimisation and improvement, in partnership with the Data Base Administrator.
  • Strategic architecture definition and product selection.
  • Production of logical designs in relevant subject area (technical, data, operational), showing for example: processes, objects, data flows, inputs, stored data and outputs. Identifying common components.
  • Implementation of architectures and Identification, ownership and resolution of design related issues.
  • Definition and documentation of data architectures standards, principles and strategies.

  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the organisation functions to contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategies.
  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives. In-depth analysis with interpretative thinking will be required to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Adopt and include the outcomes of extensive research in problem solving processes.
  • Seek out, build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in order to accomplish key business objectives, using influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes.

To be successful as a “Data Modeller", you should have experience with:

Basic/ Essential Qualifications:

  • Strong logical data modelling skills, including the ability to create, review and integrate enterprise-level logical data models.
  • Strong business data knowledge, including the ability to understand business concepts, definitions and requirements across different business units.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including the ability to assess data structures, identify inconsistencies.
  • Translate business data requirements into clear model content.

Desirable skillsets/ good to have:

  • Experience with JSON or similar structured data formats like XML, which would support data analysis, model enrichment and integration activities.
  • Knowledge of physical data design, which would help the candidate understand how logical models may be translated into implementation structures while keeping the logical model business focused.
  • Experience with metadata management, including the ability to work with business definitions, data lineage, model metadata and reusable enterprise data assets.
