Database Developer (PostgreSQL)

The Product:

FlexTCA is our Post & Pre-Trade transaction cost analysis and execution quality management solution offering historical and real-time analytics for trading portfolios and single securities across global equities, FX, futures, and fixed income. FlexTCA is used by investment managers and brokers to analyze, evaluate, and improve trader, algo, broker, and venue performance. The product includes an intuitive and flexible web interface for data visualization, exploration, and analysis.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, develop, and maintain PostgreSQL database objects supporting FlexTCA data processing, analytics, and reporting workflows.

• Assist with schema design, schema evolution, indexing strategy, table structure, views, materialized views, and other database optimization efforts.

• Support the buildout of new product capabilities requiring PostgreSQL-backed data structures, including note-taking workflows, audit-style data capture, optimized reporting tables, and other schema enhancements.

• Write, debug, and optimize SQL used for data warehouse integrity checks, report validation, reconciliation, diagnostics, and production support.

• Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of order, execution, market data, benchmark, and time-series-related FlexTCA datasets.

• Create and maintain ETL and data-load workflows for ingesting, validating, and organizing trading analytics data across development, QA, and production environments.

• Create, run, troubleshoot, and optimize Elasticube builds, data models, dashboard datasets, and related reporting dependencies.

• Support production, QA, and development database environments, including load validation, data integrity checks, operational diagnostics, and issue triage on Unix/Linux systems.

• Participate in Postgres performance tuning, including query-plan review, indexing, partitioning, vacuum/analyze strategy, materialized view refresh design, and schema-level optimization.

• Assist with database onboarding and deployment workflows for new clients, including database creation, schema setup, deployment scripts, credentials, validation checks, and downstream reporting connectivity.

• Develop Python and shell-based automation to improve the repeatability of database deployment, validation, monitoring, maintenance, and support tasks.

• Investigate production data issues such as missing records, stale data, inconsistent identifiers, failed loads, slow queries, or data mismatches across related tables.

• Partner with analytics, data engineering, reporting, and product teams to ensure the PostgreSQL model supports FlexTCA reporting, diagnostics, and future product needs.

• Create and maintain documentation for database setup, schema changes, materialized views, data-load procedures, production checks, and troubleshooting playbooks.

Required Experience

• 2-4 years of experience in database development, PostgreSQL support, data engineering, or a closely related software/data role.

• Strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills, including schema design, query development, debugging, and performance-oriented thinking.

• Working knowledge of database maintenance and operational support concepts, including logs, users/roles, permissions, backups, vacuum/analyze, and basic monitoring.

• Python programming experience for automation, data validation, or ETL-style workflows.

• Experience working in Unix/Linux environments and using shell scripting or command-line tools for investigation and support.

• Ability to investigate data correctness issues, troubleshoot root causes, and implement durable fixes rather than one-off manual corrections.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with engineering, analytics, reporting, and support stakeholders.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience

• Experience with PostgreSQL materialized views, partitioning strategies, stored functions, query-plan analysis, and index tuning.

• Experience supporting production reporting or analytics databases where data accuracy and reliability are critical.

• Experience with ETL pipelines, data warehouse workflows, data quality checks, or scheduled data-load processes.

• Familiarity with Python libraries such as pandas or NumPy, especially in validation, ETL, or data-reconciliation workflows.

• Familiarity with BI/reporting tools, especially Sisense or similar platforms backed by PostgreSQL.

• Exposure to financial markets, execution analytics, transaction cost analysis, market data, or trading data models.

• Interest in applying automation and modern development practices to improve database deployment, diagnostics, monitoring, and schema evolution.
