To support this mission, Syngenta’s Enterprise Application Platform Operations Team is seeking a ERP SAP Global Basis Lead in Pune.
This role leads SAP Basis and platform service delivery, combining hands-on SAP Basis expertise with service management, stakeholder/vendor management, and cloud infrastructure oversight. The role supports SAP roadmap planning and execution, platform architecture, and adoption of newer SAP capabilities (e.g., HANA, SAP RISE, SAP Joule, SAP BTP), with responsibility for stable, cost-effective, and compliant operations.
Responsibilities
- Technology management: Provide strong hands-on SAP Basis leadership across support and upgrade engagements; contribute to SAP roadmap planning/execution and platform architecture; work with technologies such as HANA Database, SAP RISE, SAP Joule, SAP BTP, and related SAP capabilities.
- Cloud infrastructure: Manage and guide operations for SAP infrastructure hosted in public cloud environments; support cloud resource optimization.
- Service management: Own end-to-end IT delivery scope across cost, quality, and timelines; drive service improvements and DevOps-aligned ways of working.
- Stakeholder & vendor management: Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders and strategic partners/vendors; manage SAP Basis service transitions.
- RISE enablement: Support migration to SAP RISE, including operational readiness, cost management, and enablement of Joule and SAP AI capabilities.
Accountabilities:
- Manage SAP transport and release management from a platform perspective.
- Own Basis and infrastructure functions across multiple SAP systems (e.g., ECC, S/4, MDG, EBI, BO, APO, PO, etc.).
- Apply working knowledge of database technologies such as Oracle, SAP HANA, and MS-SQL.
- Lead disaster recovery planning and execution, including cluster switchovers for SAP and databases.
- Drive major incident resolution independently, coordinating stakeholders and partners as needed.
- Lead service management practices to achieve SLAs and high customer satisfaction; address services not meeting expectations in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Own regular service performance reviews (platforms and suppliers), including dashboards and reporting on KPIs, SLAs, and OLAs.
- Guide partners in maintaining public cloud infrastructure and SAP Basis services.
- Apply strong understanding of SAP RISE and its operating model/ways of working.
- Manage cost of delivery by identifying and implementing cost-efficient service approaches.
- Own/oversee incident, problem, escalation, configuration, release, and capacity management.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements and close audit observations.
- Ensure smooth transition of projects into production and achieve run stabilization within 2–3 months.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders; identify and drive service improvements.
Qualifications
- 15–20 years of overall IT experience, including 10–15 years in global IT service delivery/management with hands-on SAP Basis and public cloud infrastructure experience.
- Degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
- ITIL v3 experience (certification preferred).
- Strong experience across SAP platforms and capabilities (e.g., SAP Basis, SAP RISE, integrations/interfaces, upgrades, HANA, cloud, and architecture).
- Excellent communication skills for issue management, escalations, opportunity identification, and documentation with strong attention to detail.
- Proven experience in client-facing roles and managing outsourced partners.
- Collaborative team contributor with a proactive approach and ability to work effectively under pressure.
